WHAT?

Our heroes Pinko Joe and Greenie Josephenie struggle through a blasted America filled with Ayn Randian talking apes, giant carnivorous vegetables and radiated Incel Klansmen! The goal of the colorful pair is to change the past and stop out of control capitalism before it destroys the world again… for the first time!

HOW?

Made over seven years, and using US public domain comic books as raw material, this last 96-page volume in the Forced Collaboration Trilogy takes the technique of détournement to a maximum level. Very funny and contemporary things are said in the context of the simulation of worn, old comic books. All that’s missing is the smell of crumbling paper! Want more? Get pictures here!

WHO?

Red White & UBLEWITALL2HELL is the third and final graphic novel starring the Pinko Joe, that hero of democratic socialism! First appearing in 2020’s eponymous Pinko Joe and followed by Greenie Josephenie, in 2021, this comic book mutant is the product of artist Christopher Sperandio. In this final volume, 70s humor magazines such as MAD Magazine are parodied in order to showcase Sperandio’s one-panel comics from his popular Instagram account, @pinko_joe (of course).

A pioneer in the field of Social Practice art, Sperandio has made collaborative comic books as new artworks for the Museum of Modern Art, London’s Institute of Contemporary Art, Baltic Art Center, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, among others — and with publishers DC Comics and Fantagraphics Books. His work has been written about by everybody from the New York Times to Artforum to Soap Opera Weekly. In the 90s, Sperandio was represented by Colin De Land at his landmark American Fine Arts gallery in New York. Sperandio now teaches art at Rice University, splitting his time between Houston, New York and Berlin (when there aren’t travel restrictions due to, you know, a pandemic or World War Three).
