Join the complex care field at Putting Care at the Center 2022
Putting Care at the Center is back in-person! Join us and conference co-host Adventist Health in sunny Sacramento, CA, September 21-23, 2022, for the seventh annual conference for the complex care field.
The theme of this year’s event is Values and value in complex care. We know that complex care offers value to consumers, communities, providers, payers, and more. How can that value be defined, measured, and demonstrated, beyond reductions in cost and utilization? We know that our shared values of health justice and equity sustain us in doing this critical and sometimes difficult work. Can we translate these shared values into sustained financial and institutional support?
We are thrilled to welcome Jennie Chin Hansen as this year’s keynote speaker. Jennie is a trailblazing nurse who pioneered the Program of All Inclusive Care to the Elderly (PACE) model and a nationally recognized leader in geriatrics and complex care for older adults. Read more about her work below.

Keynote speaker:Jennie Chin Hansen
Jennie Chin Hansen is the immediate past CEO of the American Geriatrics Society, the largest professional membership organization of gero-clinicians committed to the care of older adults living with care complexity. Prior to this position she completed her role as president of the 38-million member AARP during the negotiations and development of the Affordable Care Act. She currently contributes in content areas of dementia, workforce, chronic complex care, and health equity.
Her primary career includes nearly 25 years in San Francisco providing integrated, globally financed, and comprehensive medical and community-based service — including home care sites — for nursing home eligible older persons. This groundbreaking fully capitated, integrated, and coordinated service delivery system became the prototype for the 1997 federal law that established the Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) into the Medicare and Medicaid programs. PACE now operates extensively in California and in 30 other states.
She has served as a federal commissioner on Medicare policy and payment, and serves/served recently on several boards related to healthcare and philanthropy, including nine years on The SCAN Foundation. In January 2021, she completed her formal role as one of the stakeholders who crafted the first-ever California MasterPlan for Aging. She also serves in advisory roles with startup entities. In the recent four years, she’s been a philanthropy consultant to establish Geriatric Emergency Departments in San Francisco.
Recent recognition includes the American Society on Aging’s (ASA) Hall of Fame Award, the National Council on Aging’s (NCOA) Lifetime Achievement Award, and being named one of the national 50 Influencers in Aging by PBS’ Next Avenue. In 2019, she was accorded an Audacious Alumni award by the University of California, San Francisco and in July 2021 recorded as one of ASA’s Legacy 12 interviewees.
In addition to being a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, she has received several alumni awards from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and Boston College (BC), including an honorary doctorate.
