The ways in which we power the world are complex,
and will only grow more so. Tackling that complexity
will require advances in all energy sources, as well
as in the ability to combine or switch seamlessly
among them.

Since 2007 the four Collaboratory entities have
worked together on innovations and solutions
involving research surrounding the full spectrum of
energy sources, while partnering with their supply
chains, industry & research partners. CO-HOSTS May 4, 5, 14, 2021 100% virtual Click Here for More Information Free to attend, everyone must register, space limited

Collaborative Research

The Collaboratory’s award winning researchers integrate cutting-edge science with the industry know-how to accelerate the transfer of energy technologies into the marketplace. Learn about how to successfully respond to U.S. Department of Energy ARPA-E proposals by attending our November 28, 2018 ARPA-E Workshop.  Click here for more information.

In August 2018 the Collaboratory hosted an invitation-only “Subsurface Energy Roundtable” that included topics related to oil and gas exploration, geothermal energy, geologic sequestration, new applications for subsurface energy, methane emissions and other topics.  The discussion included participants from industry, academia, and the U.S. Department of Energy.  This roundtable discussion brought together a wide range of perspectives to help identify potentially transformational technology opportunities, as well as the thought leaders in industry and academia who could launch new R&D programs to unlock these opportunities.

Game-changing investments positioning Colorado to power the nation

The four Collaboratory institutions have spun out 90+ new companies and acquired 540+ new technology licenses since 2007.   Colorado is #3 in U.S. Department of Energy’s ARPA-E investments nationally which has been a fast-track to commercialization.  The four institutions have $500 million in investments in facilities and strategic hiring of entrepreneurial research.

Colorado Energy Research Collaboratory

Since 2007, the Colorado Energy Research Collaboratory (Collaboratory) is a uniquely Colorado partnership.  The Collaboratory has been a successful and impactful research consortium among four leading research institutions—the Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University, University of Colorado-Boulder, and National Renewable Energy Laboratory.  Our impact and exceptional record of research and education can be read in our economic impact report.

Our research areas support a diversified energy portfolio in advanced energy technologies in oil and gas, sustainable energy, microgrid, battery, advanced cooling, gas to liquid, and increased energy efficiency — to name a few.

The Collaboratory works with industry partners, public agencies, and other universities and colleges to transform our energy future.  We do this by:

Use our world-class researchers and state-wide facilities to expand our national leadership in energy research collaborationsLeverage partnerships to transform research innovation into commercial impactDeveloping technologies that make “all of the above” energy exploration and production more effective and cheaperTraining the next-gen workforce through education, company/job creating technologies and intellectual propertyBoosting the nation’s energy ecosystem through research partnerships with industry, foundations, and government

The 9th annual energy transition symposium was a great success with over 60 speakers in the three day event!

You can watch any of the recorded sessions during the energy transition symposium originally held May 4-5 and 14, 2021.  Everyone must register first in order to access the videos.
