International Holocaust RemembranceDay

January 27th

​

In January 2005, following the UN General Assembly session prior to the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, a UN resolution was drafted to designate January 27th as the date to commemorate Holocaust victims throughout the world. The resolution called for education programs on the Holocaust to help prevent genocide, and rejected Holocaust denials. On November 1, 2005, the Assembly adopted this resolution so that the day could be observed each year, starting in 2006.
