We provide one-on-one, personalized care and treatment of your medical needs. Let our family take care of your family, because what we do matters to you! Maybe you aren’t sure if you need an allergist. Review the common symptoms and conditions below that we treat.Allergic rhinitis (Hay fever)AsthmaDrug allergiesEczema/ Atopic dermatitisFood allergiesHeadachesHivesItchy or watery eyes Skin testing is a method of testing for allergic antibodies. We will introduce small amounts of suspected allergens into the skin, noting the development of a reaction. The results are read 15- 20 minutes after the application of the allergen. Interpretation of skin tests requires the allergist’s skill in matching the results with the patient’s history of allergy-like symptoms. We offer a wide range of allergens for testing, including foods, environmental inhalants, and select medications. What you are tested for will be determined after speaking with our providers, based on your history and symptoms. Immunotherapy, or allergy injections, is a treatment used to relieve allergy symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever) or allergic asthma by administering injections of substances such as pollen, mold spores, dust mites, animal dander and insects to which an individual has been found to be allergic by skin testing. The injections build up a patient’s immunity to allergens and generally, patients find a substantial reduction of their symptoms and need for medication. You should consider immunotherapy if you are unable to avoid specific allergens, frequently miss school and work because of symptoms, and/or get inadequate relief from medications or experience troublesome side effects from those medications. Dear Patients of Richmond Allergy and Asthma Specialists,We would like to take this opportunity to provide you with some information with regards to Richmond Allergy and Asthma’s office preparedness and the new Coronavirus (COVID-19). While it is possible that this will have little impact on us locally, all of us here at Richmond Allergy are preparing for the chance that Central Virginia may be affected in the coming days and weeks. While most COVID-19 cases have led to flu-like symptoms and resolve in 2-3 weeks, it is prudent to be proactive and very aggressive in preventing infection. The most effective thing that all of us can do is to wash our hands with soap and water (or alcohol-based hand sanitizer when not available) and to avoid touching our faces. As medical professionals, our most serious concern is for people who are immunocompromised or suffer from other serious health problems. To ensure these patients can be seen in the healthiest and safest possible environment, if you have a fever or think you might be infected, do not come to the office for your appointment or for shots. Call our front desk and we will be happy to provide you with a new appointment. Richmond Allergy and Asthma’s employee policy requires our providers and staff to stay at home if they are ill as well. Be assured that all Richmond Allergy employees are following the protocols recommended by the World Health Organization. Please refer to the World Health Organization (WHO) website https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019.We will continue to closely monitor all aspects of the COVID-19 situation, and will update any changes on our Richmond Allergy and Asthma website and Facebook page.Richmond Allergy and Asthma has and will continue to be a safe place to get your medical care.Be Well.
