Monash community groups and services get $2.5 million boost in 2020/21 Council will fund almost $2.5 million in community grants to groups and organisations within Monash in 2020/21. Rate relief key feature of 2020/21 draft Budget Monash Council has made the unprecedented decision in its draft Budget to introduce a 10 per cent waiver on Council rates for the 2020/21 financial year as a gesture of support for the Monash community in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. New provider for Monash kindergarten services Ballarat YMCA has been identified as the new provider for the 18 community based kindergartens in Monash from 2021. Breaking news: proposed easing of some restrictions delayed The State Government has announced it has revised some changes to the easing of restrictions planned for Monday 22 June with these changes now delayed, limiting visitors to homes and patrons at cafes and restaurants. Local Women Leading Change While women make up over 50 per cent of Victoria's population, they account for only 38 per cent of its councillors. The Victorian Local Governance Association is encouraging more women to look at a role on Council. Breaking news: sinkhole causes road closure Latrobe Street (Hughesdale) South East Water has completed the repair of a sinkhole and sewer works at the corner of LaTrobe and Barkly Streets in Hughesdale. Monitoring of the site continues. Local company gives helping hand to Monash students with donation of sanitiser for classrooms The donation of 1586 bottles of 500ml and 1872 bottles of 50ml Organic Choice hand sanitisers - to be distributed to 18 state primary and secondary schools across Monash - was coordinated through Council’s Community Response Team. Freeze on increase to Councillor allowances As a result of the significant coronavirus financial impacts on the community, Council has determined there will not be an increase to Mayoral and Councillor allowances during 2020/21 financial year and until such time as Council resolves otherwise.
