Introduction The purpose of this site is to be a resource centre for those interested in the study and practice of pre-16th century(Dark Ages, Medieval and Renaissance) needlework/embroidery and its techniques. Structure The website is divided into three main categories: Location - this section divides information according to geograhical area. The areas listed are: England France Germanic Lands Scandinavia Spain Eastern Europe The Middle East Techniques - this section is broken into the following areas: Stitches - lists and demonstrates what stitches were used, when and where. Materials - lists what materials were used, when and where. Uses - lists the various uses for embroidery and when and where they were used. Styles - lists various specific techniques used in period, such as Blackwork, Opus Anglicanum, Or Nue or Whitework. This website is an ongoing project and contributions are welcome from anyone who may have information of interest to users of the website.
