First Great Western aka FGW operate many train services out of London Paddington.To find the answer to my question, let's all ask them why the 0827 to Oxford, a five-coach train, has been running since May 2015 with only the front two or three coaches in use for passengers, and see how many different explanations FGW come up with.I've heard three so far. The first was extremely economical with the truth. The second was pretty implausible, but might not be an outright lie.The third is actually plausible, although it shows amazing contempt for the travelling public.UPDATE: After three-and-a-half weeks, FGW provided a complete explanation which appears to be reliable. They also apologised for giving out "conflicting information". I think that is known as a euphemism.FURTHER UPDATE (October) : Platform staff are still advising passengers to "move down the platform and use the full length of the train". And they are still pretending ignorance when passengers ask them why the rear carriages are not in use. ASIDE: FGW are rebranding themselves as "Great Western Railway" (GWR), but we are not so easily fooled.UPDATE MAY 2016 ; With the new summer timetable, the train no longer stops at the little-used station with short platforms which was the excuse for this nonsense. Problem solved.To be honest, it is just me playing around with Joomla! (Their exclamation mark, not mine.)I have added some trivia under Stuff.
