A Note from Dean PettyM.L. Cissy Petty, Ph.D.Dear GW Students:Today, we are sad. We ache for our sisters and brothers, our mothers and fathers, our friends and our neighbors, our classmates and peers who continue to live in an unjust world that surrounds them. The senseless deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd and others before them did not have to happen. Their lives were taken too early and we will never fully appreciate the good they brought into this world.Almost two years ago when I moved to D.C., I eagerly ran to the Supreme Court and took a joyous picture. I was so proud that our nation finally saw to it that I could marry whomever I loved in the name of equality. I returned this weekend to the same spot and found myself at odds. When I looked up again at these words, Equal Justice Under Law, I felt heartsick realizing the hollowness of those words. Until ALL OF US have equal justice under the law, no one does.Read More from Dean PettyStudent Well-beingAs we navigate through uncertain times, it s more important than ever to focus on our own well-being.Take time to take care of yourself. On campusstudents were asked to vacate GW residence halls and only a limited number of exceptions were made. With governmentstay-at-home instructions issued to limit the spread of COVID-19, we do not believe it will be safe for students to return to campus in the coming weeks to move out of the residence halls. Our focus is on packing and storing student belongings through the start of the Fall 2020 semester at no cost. We are exploring options for the shipping of some items or the retrieval of stored belongings.Visit Campus Living and Residential EducationStudent LifeFollow @studentlifeatgw to stay connectedto the community of engaged students.Follow Student Life at GWCampus RecreationFollow @gwcampusrec for weekly workout challenges, tips, and resources to stay healthy!Follow Campus RecGW TrailsFollow @gwtrails to get outside andlearn how you can explore the outdoors responsibly.Follow GW TrailsResidential LifeFollow @homeatgw to stay connected to the residential community, your homeat GW.Follow Home at GW GW is committed to digital accessibility.
