Confession: I am trying to catch your attention with my recently acquired secondhand Chanel flats (!!) but I have lured you here under false pretenses. What I really want to say/ask is:Here in Indiana, everyone was able to vote by mail for the primaries, but for November s election, you have to have a special reason to vote by mail. But you can (as always) vote early at various locations. So today I looked up those locations and times, and Kristin and I picked a time to go together next week. I even sent her a calendar invite so we don t forget!I ve gotten really in to matching/coordinating sets lately. I mean think about it: wear them together, instant outfit. Wear them separately, 1000 more outfits. I mean I haven t done the math but that seems right.It s not that I normally have trouble finding things to wear, but sometimes my pandemic brain just wants me to try and make some decisions a little easier. It s the same reason I started ordering food from Hungryroot: I like cooking, but if someone can pick out recipes, send me all the stuff, and tell me how to heat it up and eat it, that sounds pretty appealing right now. Anyone else into matching sets (yes, in the current climate, pajamas totally count)?If it s still warm where you are, this is just an idea of what to wear tomorrow. But, add some pom-poms and this is also a guide to being a 50s cheerleader for Halloween. (I did not wear this as a costume I was just born in the wrong era and gravitate toward retro styles.)Speaking of 50s costumes, if you don t get queasy at bloody stuff, I highly recommend watching Ratched on Netflix the fashion is to die for (pun intended the bodies really pile up).When: August 26 // Weather: hot // Real life: working from home and speaking in a WebinarI ve always been nervous about public speaking, and since working from home, I ve discovered that I m still nervous about public speaking even when it s in the privacy of my own home. Oh well. But on the bright side, when I have to present on a webinar, it gives me an excuse to wear my signature bold lip.One day, I will actually have to go back to working in an office, eating out, and going to do things outside my home on a regular basis. I assume. Most likely. I can’t decide if I’m excited to go back to my more dressed up style, or if I’ll miss my casual work-from-home loungey look. Probably a little of both. I suppose time will tell, if I survive the apocalypse.I really liked this outfit definitely not something I would or could wear to the office. (I think we’re still a few decades away from shorts being appropriate at a law firm.) I felt like I was pulling off that Parisienne not-trying-too-hard vibe I’m always striving for, but only sometimes accomplishing. I have a feeling I will have more time to perfect my je ne sais quoi from home.Currently counting down the days to my beach vacation (not a crowded one, don t worry). I ve been preparing by dressing like I m on vacation all summer. Quick, un-sponsored sustainability shout-out to Baleen, a jewelry company I recently learned about. You can t see the necklace well in these photos because it s impossibly delicate, but it s lovely. Baleen s jewelry is made from almost all recycled metals, in a zero-waste facility. Cool, right? And the price point is pretty accessible, which I m not mad about either. Check em out.When: August 13 // Weather: hot // Real life: working from home celebrating my birthday from homeI celebrated a birthday earlier this month, and I m officially halfway to 70. I see my future Golden Girl self on the horizon, and I m not mad about it. (I m a Sophia, but less racist.)My 30s have been great so far. Since entering this decade of my life, I ve gained about 10 pounds of wisdom. And speaking of pounds and wisdom, this year I wisely requested a quarantined birthday featuring pizza and cookie cake at home with my wife (a combo Blanche/Dorothy), and it was everything I could have wanted.About a million years ago, a French blogger that I follow wore a brown polo-style shirt, and I though it so unexpectedly chic so I made a mental note to get myself a brown polo. It was very much an I saw Cadie Herron wearing army pants and flip flops moment.Most polo-style shirts have logos on them, which is not my jam, but I finally finally found what I was looking for. And then It had been so long since I stumbled upon that chocolat-clad Parisienne, I couldn t remember what the hell I thought was so great about a brown polo. A brown polo, you guys. I m basically twinning with the UPS driver that delivered the damn shirt to me. BUT, I m trying to be less wasteful, so I m going to do my very best to get good use out of this thing. Here is attempt #1. More styling ideas are welcome.When: August 1 // Weather: warm and humid // Real life: social distancing at the art museumIf you re looking for a dress that doubles as a parachute or small tent in a pinch, I ve found the garment for you. After all, if 2020 has taught us anything, it s that you must be prepared for anything.Luckily, I was able to stick to using this dress for its intended purposes while visiting the Indianapolis Museum of Art earlier this month. I know most people miss things like restaurants and parties and their families or whatnot, but me I mainly wanted to be reunited with walls full of beautiful things. If any of my local readers have been thinking of returning to the Newfields campus, I highly recommend it. Everyone wore masks, there was plenty of space, and I felt totally comfortable. And the current Edward Hopper exhibit is quite apropo.Last month, we celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. As you other long-term relationship folks know, after awhile you have to make a little effort to keep things fresh and exciting. So this year we wore sexy disguises and role-played that there was a worldwide plague that we had to protect each other from at all costs.
