Recordings and sonagrams of the bird sounds of eastern North America and the UK

Thursday, June 10 Welcome to BIRD CALLS and SONGS, an audio field guide to the bird soundsof the Eastern United States. Here you'll find my recordings of over 300 NorthAmerican species and 70+ species which were recorded in the UK. Additionallythere are nocturnal flight calls of over 100 species, and juvenile calls ofalmost 100 species.

My aim has been to provide an easily navigable reference and educationalresource to bird vocalizations. Enjoy browsing the site!

Posted byPaul Driverat8:18 AM0comments Wednesday, June 9 Swainson's Warbler fledgling callThis is recent audio of a Swainson's Warbler fledgling at Howell Woods Environmental Center in North Carolina. I was at first drawn towards a chipping adult and then heard an unfamiliar sound coming from nearby vegetation. Approaching the sound, I observed a young Swainson's Warbler on the ground, so recently out of the nest that it couldn't fly.

Posted byPaul Driverat8:18 AM0comments Monday, June 7 Willet flight callsRecently at Green Lane Reservoir, PA, two Willets in separate locations were found on the same day, an unprecedented occurrence. Willets are rarely reported inland in the NE United States, and then are usually of the western subspecies. In fact, eastern Willet has never been recorded in Pennsylvania,and one of the birds appeared to be an eastern in appearance. I obtained the following recordings of each bird's flight/alarm call. The call of the eastern has been described as Laughing Gull-like, and that of the western godwit-like. It appears that the possible eastern had a call that matched an eastern, bolstering the putative identification of this bird as Pennsylvania's first ever eastern Willet.
