SAVE Promise Clubs are student-led organizations that encourage young people to take charge of keeping their friends, schools, and communities safe.Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) Promise Club is the student leadership initiative of Sandy Hook Promise. Led by our Youth Advisory Board, the aim is to empower student leaders to take an active role in increasing school safety and preventing different forms of violence in schools and communities.“I have learned to listen, understand, and embrace the youthfulness in myself and others. Lack of involvement and bonding between individuals spawns the harvest of hate, which is why organizations like the Sandy Hook Promise and SAVE Promise Clubs are needed in today’s society. One word can change a mindset, two words can make an impact, but one action can change a life.” Cedric Sawyer, Miami Southridge Senior High, FLStudents learn from each other about how to create an inclusive school culture of looking out for one another through activities, events, and projects that promote kindness. Club members are empowered with knowledge and skills necessary to provide service to their community and school.SAVE Promise Clubs engage students in meaningful violence prevention efforts within their school and community.Youth leadership encourages positive peer influences within the school and community through shared violence prevention efforts.Students want safe schools and communities and want to lead the change in these efforts. Many young people suffer silently because they feel alone or invisible. Those who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence, or depression. Some may pull further away from society, struggle with learning and social development, and even choose to hurt themselves or others.Student-led SAVE Promise Clubs offer a powerful approach to preventing violence because they recognize the unique role that young people play in making their schools and communities safer. A SAVE Promise Club can be a stand-alone club or embedded into an existing club, such as SADD, Student Council, FCCLA, or another student leadership, civic, or kindness club. Many SAVE Promise Clubs are successful meeting only once or twice a month and organizing four activities throughout the year.
