Indiana's Only Holocaust MuseumIn 1995, Eva Mozes Kor opened the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Terre Haute, with a mission to prevent prejudice and hatred through education about the Holocaust. Thousands of people, including many school groups, have visited CANDLES since it opened. In 2003, the museum was destroyed by a hate-filled arsonist. Eva vowed to rebuild, and with the help of a generous public outpouring of support, the museum was rebuilt and reopened in 2005. CANDLES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.The museum will remain open every Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm EST. * For groups of 15 people or larger, we are happy to schedule a group visit Mondays through Thursdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm as long as you contact us 7-14 days in advance of your desired visit dateGeneral admission: $7.00 per personGroup rate (10 or more guests with a reservation made 48 hours prior to visit): $5.00Any students with ID: $5:00ISU students with ID, children age 6 and under, veterans: free admission CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center requires unvaccinated individuals to wear masks when visiting the museum but allows for masks to be optional for guests who are fully vaccinated.Social distancing is also utilized when possible and highly encouraged. CANDLES will remain in accordance with CDC guidelines. For more information, please contact us at 812.234.7881 or info@candlesholocaustmuseum.org. Please join us Friday and Saturday, October 1st and 2nd from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm EST (lunch and materials provided). This workshop is open to all Holocaust educators who teach grades 7-12. Participants will have the opportunity to obtain up to 12 Professional Growth PointsWorkshop Goals:The goals of this workshop are to examine the definition of Judaism and explore pre-war Jewish Life, understand and examine the basic guidelines and frameworks for teaching the Holocaust, examine the events and complexity leading up to the Holocaust, adopt and adapt new resources and approaches for Holocaust education in the classroom, develop and build a network of educators who can support your teaching, break down causes and application of Nazi racial ideology in the development of the laws and pseudoscience of the Holocaust and examine how this pseudoscience was applied to victims of twin experiments, and define and identify the stages of genocide and explore a contemporary genocide through survival testimony. For more information and to register click here.
