keywords: description:Friday, 3 May 2013 Friday morning in Belfast, what could be better? A nice weekend ahead and despite of the pissing rain outside it feels a bit like spring .Finally. The rain definitely got warmer. On the way to work I was trying to remember how many different words for rain I've heard so far in Northern Ireland. Or I should rather say words, that describe anything wet coming out of clouds. Here are the ones I could remember:
Lashing, bucketing, pissing, pishing, drizzling, pouring, spitting, dumping, hammering....
Very creative I have to say. In the German language I can only think of 2 or 3 different words. But then...the amount of rain in Germany is considerably lower. We don't spend that much time thinking and talking about rain. My favourite 'rain-scenario' (oh god, I must be mental) is actually not listed above; I think it's called sun shower and never happens on the continent: You happily walk down the street, wearing sunglasses and you think: GOSH, what a day!, and then, literally out of the blue, a couple of raindrops hit you in the face. When you look up to the sky then, there is only a single, tiny wee cloud that is spitting out a couple of drops. Very fascinating I have to say. Because it feels like in a comic, where the evil cloud is always following the sad and unlucky hero...
Ok enough of that weather talk.
I really would like to post a couple of pictures here, cause Belfast definitely is great pic-material. Unfortunately I don't have a camera but I think I might try to use my papapapapaaaammm....smartphone. Like any other random blogger around this smartphone infected globe. And what would be better to try the camera out than a good, old selfie!!!

1 hour later:
Well.....I've tried now for over an hour to upload this damn picture but it didnt work. It looks like I'm too stupid to do this.......(for f$%* sake).
Conclusion: No pics on the blog!No comments: Friday, 15 March 2013 The house hunting season is overLong time, no see! I wasnt particularly busy, rather particularly lazy. Whats the news in my wee world?? Its Paddys Day on Sundaybut more exciting: Im moving tomorrow!HUZZA! Bye Bye Holywood! Finally! I am so sick of spendingspending time on the train back and forth to
There is this guy I always meet on the train home (yeah,I spend half my day at train stations and on trains);he's a bit short but all in all not too bad. But he's always carrying a huuuuuuge umbrella, even when it's dry all day.WHY? The only logical explanation I can think of is, that he's still living with his mummy and she tells him every morning: "Don't you forget your umbrella, son!". I'm sure if he'd only knew, what women think about him, he would toss the brollie into the next bin. Men have to be wet and walk through the rain with their head held up high! And not being concerned about their hairdo getting ruined. Dunno where all this 'sissyism' comes from nowadays but I don't appreciate it. Wheredid the good old times go when men were men and didn'tuse more cosmetics than women? No comments: Wednesday, 16 January 2013 SNOW,hey hoNorthern Ireland is expecting snow. Or so they say. I don't see the sense of a forecast in a country where the weather changes every half an hour. We simply have to accept that Northern Irish weather is unpredictable. And now they say snow for saturday.MASSIVE amounts of snow. Do we believe that?Naaaah.. I remember the headline of the Telegraph in december: This is going to be the hardest winter in a 100 years!!! Has anyone seen snow yet?Or ice? I'm still walking about in ballerinas, no boots and no woolen knickers needed.
But maybe I should get geared up for the weekend???
P.S.:Oh my god...I'm blogging about the weather. Seems like I've adapted local habits more than I thougt....No comments: Tuesday, 15 January 2013 A grumpy wee bunchI got a sweet from the conductor at Yorkgate train station yesterday when I went home after work. Isn't that amazing? Yeah, I know, never take a sweet from a stranger, but then...he's not really a stranger. He's Mr. Yorkgate and I meet him nearly every day. So I took it and munched it while listening to him chatting away about his kids,wife,mother..etc. That's one of the reasons why I love this country so much. Its people. Something like this would just never happen in Germany. We don't talk. Especially not to strangers. And if somebody is trying to approach us with some sort of a friendly chitchat we answer in monosyllables and try to seem really busy with our book/phone/Mp3 player.
And if anyone thinks, this is a chliche, let me tell you:NO it's NOT. I did some sort of a case study on this, taking place on the plane. Whenever I fly from Dublin to Frankfurt or back, the people on the plane are mixed, either German or Irish. And whenever the person next to me was Irish, within minutes I was involved in a conversation about weather, destination, the horrible colour of the stewardess' uniform...etc. Was the person next to me German, then ..guess what?Yeah, siiiilence.Nothing. Not even an impatient sigh during the endless security performance of the crew.
We are a grumpy wee bunch. But the good news is: we can change. After living here for quite some time I catch myself chatting away to the granny at the bus stop about the pros and cons of home shopping. No comments: Monday, 14 January 2013 Wie gut Brandbomben und Bier zusammen passenMontag Morgen.
In diesem Sinne: Knock it in ye!!!No comments: Friday, 11 January 2013 Überforderung durch Unterforderung (Thanks to Alex for this great sketch)
Und zwar auf deutsch.I can't be bothered to write in English.
Check!
No comments: Location:Belfast, UK Older PostsHomeSubscribe to:Posts (Atom)Blog Archive 2013(7) May(1)Friday morning in Belfast, what could be better? A... March(1) January(5) 2012(2) December(2)
