NewsletterAlternative Models of Ownership
If the economy is to serve the common good instead of striving for greater profit, we must all be able to participate in its organisation. To that end we research and develop diverse and alternative models of ownership. These include worker-owned companies and cooperatives, democratically organized municipal firms, socialised housing or public funds that hold shares in private companies. In order to further the democratisation of companies, we develop strategies and provide advice and support to workers and owners alike.
Democratic Economy
We sketch out the contours of an economy belonging to – and serving – us all. Effective co- and self determination can take on different forms and be realized on different levels: From worker owned businesses and democratized public services to (supra) regional economic and investment councils. The aim is to align our common economic activity with social justice, ecological sustainability and meeting everyone’s needs.
Public wealth
Mobility, education, housing and fast internet are some examples of goods and services in the everyday economy that belong in democratically designed and controlled common property. Where common wealth and public ownership have been systematically dismantled and privatised, our mission is to take common goods and essential public infrastructures back into our own hands and to organise them democratically. To do so, we develop concepts of democratic ownership for communities, local governments and other actors and support them in their transition.

Vincent has worked extensively on the Green New Deal and the Degrowth movement. He is the project coordinator for our strategic conference “for an economy of the many”. He is a passionate street-musician and cooks quite a delicious lasagne.
Lukas keeps things in order and loves to organise. He enjoys bicyling and is the author of a book on alternative local economic policy to strengthen democratic enterprises.

Lemon develops radical approaches to a societal/economic transformation and focuses on strengthening the ties between social movements and other actors. Alongside communia they are active with “Deutsche Wohnen und Co. Enteignen” in Berlin.
Max is working on the socialisation of the automobile-industry as a first step towards the wider goal of a democratic and ecological economy. He is consistently improving the digital infrastructure behind communia and enthusiastically calls for public luxury.
