TX5N DX-pedition

DX-pedition to Raivavae, Austral Islands

August 3, 2022

July 12, 2022

Next up is several team members will be in California the last weekend in July to unpack the equipment shipment and return borrowed equipment.

We’ve had a few reports that LoTW uploads for several donors are missing.

If you’re a donor and haven’t received your LoTW confirmation please send an e-mail to: support (at) tx5n.net

June 30, 2022

– Direct mail QSL cards were posted from the UK on this day. Please allow for the usual mail delays to receive your card(s).

– Buro cards will be placed in the IARU system sometime in the UK summer.

June 11, 2022

Thanks for your continued interest in the project.

The QSL card designs were submitted to the printer (ON5UR Print) on Sunday, June 5th and is currently in process. The cards will be shipped to Tim M0URX and distributed from the United Kingdom. There will be two different color cards. One will be a single buro card and the other a folded card. LoTW processing is performed every day, typically expect a 48 hour processing window for both OQRS and LoTW. Expect the cards to be posted the first week of July.

May 25, 2022

As the project winds down we’re now working with Tim M0URX and Max ON5UR to design the QSL cards.

All LoTW uploads are complete for the donors. If you’re a donor and still haven’t received your LoTW please send an e-mail to:  support (@) tx5n.net  Those using OQRS will see their LoTW within 48 hours.

From the e-mails we’re receiving we know you had a great time chasing TX5N, and we had fun putting the Austral Islands on the air.

Until the next time.

Thanks for the donations and using TX5N OQRS.

The team is now home and back in their time zone.

We’ll put out a press release when the QSL cards are ready for distribution.

Please use M0URX.com for confirmation requests or resolving missing or busted Qs.

May 3, 2022

Most of the team will begin their journey home today, scheduled arrival (depending on location) will be during the day on May 4th.

Once we get settled at home we’ll consolidate our photos and select several for the QSL card. We will also post some of the more interesting photos to this website.

Sometime in late May – June several of the team members will meet in California to unpack the equipment shipment,  return borrowed equipment and place the remaining equipment in our storage locker in San Jose, California.

May 1, 2022

The antennas and radios are packed for return to California. The team is resting in Papeete, preparing for their journey home.

All the logs are uploaded to M0URX.com

Busted or missing QSOs will be researched by Tim M0URX. Please use the form on the TX5N OQRS page to report problem QSOs. Unless you are asked, do NOT send files, spreadsheets, images or your log to Tim or to the operators.

We had a good time activating the first major Pacific DX-pedition since early 2020.

We are now investigating other DXpedition projects.

Thanks for the pile-ups.

April 27, 2022

Thanks for the great pile-ups.

We will go QRT sometime on Thursday, April 28th.

April 15, 2022

From the airport in Papeete (PPT).

Our flight to the island is delayed by about 2 hours. By the time we arrive at the guest house later today there won’t be enough remaining daylight to install antennas. Our current thinking is to begin the antenna work at day break and be on the air later in the day on April 16th.

Most of the team will meet at the airport in Papeete at about 11AM.  It’s only a 15 minute drive from the hotel to the airport.

See you in the pile-ups.

April 10, 2022

There is a fascinating 52 minute video about of Raivavae. Posted by the Pacific Islands Research Institute.

See you in the pile-ups

April 6, 2022 Update:

Our equipment is now safely at the guest house on Raivavae.

One team member will leave Germany on Monday, the remaining team members will meet at the San Francisco airport on Tuesday for the 8 hour flight to Papeete.

If you’re curious about propagation from your QTH to Raivavae click on the K6TU menu link. Add your information and Stu’s software will calculate the openings.

We are hand carrying some equipment, including a newly purchased DX-1200 amplifier and several antenna pieces and parts.

Good luck, we’ll see you in the pile-ups.

Feb. 27, 2022 Update:

Our equipment arrived by air in Papeete, Tahiti on French Bee Airlines, exited Customs, and was trucked to the seaport. It was loaded on an inter-island cargo ship and is scheduled to arrive Raivavae on March 1st. The shipment consisted of 2 pallets and one small crate, total weight ~1,100 pounds. We appreciate the assistance from Omni Logistics, San Francisco, California and SA Entreprise J.A. Cowan & Fils, our Papeete based Customs Broker.

Several members of the Perseverance DX Group (PDXG) will activate Raivavae Island (Austral Islands), French Polynesia,  April 15 – April 29, 2022 for approximately 12 operating days. The plan is to have radios on the air continually, as propagation allows.

The call sign TX5N was issued for this project. Team members include: Steve W1SRD, Doris K0BEE, Rob N7QT, Melanie N7BX, Heye DJ9RR, Walt N6XG and Gene K5GS. The team is planning to operate 160m – 10m (including 60m), CW, SSB and Digital.

The team will meet in Papeete, Tahiti on April 12th and fly to Raivavae on April 15th, returning to Papeete on April 29th. The team will make about 50,000 QSOs.

The operating location, Tama Raivavae Resort, will provide a small bungalow for each team member and a separate building for radio operations. Tama Raivavae has hosted many past DX-peditions.

Equipment will include Elecraft K3 transceivers with 500 and 1.5K watt linear amplifiers. Antennas will be verticals and a hexbeam, antenna placement will be on the beach.  We expect to have some internet availability for daily log uploads to M0URX.com

This project is self-funded by the team. We welcome donations via the Donate button or with OQRS to offset equipment shipping expenses.

We are hoping that Covid doesn’t interfere with the project.
