Complex problems require complex solutions, which frequently involve multiple partners providing support to create lasting change. United Way researches the issues, then coordinates volunteers, organizations, and funding to follow through with the best ideas. Promote Stability Transitional housing, inclement weather shelters, and meal services for homeless adults and teens. Enhance Education Tutoring and summer camps for elementary students who are learning reading skills. Provide Healthcare Free dental and eye care clinics and a prescription drug program that lowers prices. Join forces with United Way to strengthen our community through fun and needed projects in the Midlands. Facilitated by Wright Wellness Center staff, Safe Zone Training provides participants with a culture-specific introduction to LGBTQ+ identities, gender and sexuality, and examines prejudice, assumptions, and privilege. Grab your girlfriends or your significant other (or treat just yourself!) and enjoy a night of pampering and special treats! Profits will benefit women and children in need right here in the Midlands. Since its inception, Driving Down Main has brought essential industries within the small business space together so they can connect through friendly competition and experience the joy of giving back to their community. For FY 2021-22, we expect the Midlands community to focus on continued response and recovery to the Pandemic. We have aligned the strategies of our current Impact Plan to focus on meeting basic needs and building resiliency. The Self-Sufficiency Standard for South Carolina is a measure of income adequacy that is based on the costs of basic needs for working families: housing, child care, food, health care, transportation, and miscellaneous items, as well as the cost of taxes and the impact of tax credits.
