The aims and objectives of the NMN are as follows:To promote and propagate the understanding and practice of Islam.To serve as a unique forum for efficient and effective communication, information and ideas sharing, intellectual discourse, positive networking and fostering the spirit of Islamic brotherhood.To promote the general welfare of members as well as Nigerian Muslims and global Ummah, promote and defend their rights and interests at all times and in all places.To collaborate with Nigerian Muslims Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that share the aspirations and focus of NMN.To co-operate with like-minded Islamic Organizations in consolidating the unity of Nigerian Muslim Ummah in particular and Global Muslims Ummah in general.To acquire properties or structures (landed or otherwise) and engage in other lawful activities in realization and fulfilment of the aforementioned aims and objectives. A BRIEF HISTORY OF NMNThe NMN started in 1991 as THT (Taskar Hausa a Turai - i.e. Centre for Hausa in Europe) with only 5 Muslim brothers who wanted to communicate in one of the Nigerian languages. The language of communication then was Hausa ONLY. The main aim at that time was to encourage the speaking of Hausa language. Gradually, however, membership expanded to about 25 people, and so the need arose for formal operational guidelines. Later, as other non-Hausa speaking Muslims began to increasingly subscribe to the network, a further need to include ALL Nigerian Muslims arose and the name was subsequently changed to NMN (Nigerian Muslims Network).
