We work to ensure fair sustainable food, farm and trade systems. U.S. agricultural financial policy and institutions (both public and private) have not adapted to climate change. Our white paper summarizes how segments of U.S. agricultural and agribusiness finance could modify policies and financial products to adapt. We explore reforms in five segments of finance: crop and livestock insurance; loans; bonds to finance agricultural lending; agricultural price benchmarking commodity futures markets; and agribusiness financial disclosures to investors. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a worldwide health crisis, upending day-to-day life, destabilizing the global economy and impacting international politics. This ever-evolving tragedy will greatly impact our food systems, federal food assistance programs, farmers and farmworkers, ranchers and fisherpeople, and food producers. As the repercussions of the pandemic unfold, IATP will continue to respond to emerging challenges, publish our work and share our partners’ efforts on our COVID-19 page.
