Should you Waterproof?

Waterproofing our home is one of the major improvement we can do and we must do. Water drifts from the roof are not what we want to experience and will wet our basements, floors or on us. Waterproofing is a must do considering that water damage may ruin or weakens the structure of our house.  When we plan for some renovations or home improvements , bad weather or heavy rains must be considered first.

Planning should be done prior to when any damage can occur . This will save you a lot of time and money in the long run. Doing it after experiencing major damage is very difficult. Doing it by yourself or hiring a professional residential water proofer are your options but there would be much difference in the result of both. The damage done will be the one to be weighed whether you have to do it yourself or to do it by hiring a pro. Having minor leaks or seeping in the home is considered the type of signs that you could possibly be successful in fixing yourself.

When Do I Need Help?

You do not have to call the pros if your problem is only some leaks that water may pass through and perhaps weakens the structure, instead you do it yourself. A lot of the materials to fix minor leaks can be found in your local stores like Wal-Mart or you can order your material from Amazon. This could cost you a few 100 bucks but its good to stop the problem initially before any real issues arise.

Remove the old paint and the dirt and let lose the mortar by using a brush when you have located the part of the foundation or structure or roof that the water or moisture builds up. After cleaning and drying, repaint it with a special paint just for leaks. Three to four coats is recommended for a better result.

Calling a pro to fix the problem is your option if there is a severe damage to be repaired. It may cost you a lot of money, but consider the things it can offer when the job is complete. Youve just increased the value of your house. Remember when  you are deciding which company is the best to do the job you dont always want to go with the one who gives you the cheapest quote.

Always check the interior and the exterior of your walls and clean your gutter always to prevent having water seepage in the structures and foundation. Its good to make these checks every year. This will make sure that you always determine the issue before more advanced problems occur.
