Product Description:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Our fourth edition of our "TIMEX x DDC Standard Issue Scout Watch!" A collaboration between Timex and the Draplin Design Co. Item no. "DDC-200" in our proud roster of DDC merch items. NOW SHIPPING!!!In the making three years, a process that started with a fateful meeting at Brimfield with fellow junker and watch developer Ali Napolitano. We became buds trading war stories from our junkin' exploits and a couple weeks later she hit me up about working with TIMEX. And today, we offer up our collaboration. Thank you, Ali! I used to make watches for Nixon when I worked at Cinco and missed the nicks and ticks and dial scrutiny. The tiny spaces, the precision...the functionality. We got to tap back into that buzz designing this watch face using our DDC Hardware typeface. If you dig the face, wait until you see the caseback! Shit, the box alone is something to marvel at.These watches are $89.99, plus shipping and handling. We're proud about that. Not $300 or $849 or whatever all-too-unattainable price we come across too often. You know what we like about TIMEX? You can go to Target right now and get a killer one for $70. I appreciate that. Durability and design at a fair, affordable price. We fight hard for this same stuff at the DDC. From our posters to our action caps to that DDC book, and proudly, this incredible TIMEX watch. OUT TODAY: Our 7th Skillshare class titled, “Crusty Techniques: Get Dirty with the DDC” is out! Here’s the official Skillshare verbiage about the class:“While legendary designer Aaron Draplin has spent most of his career creating work on the computer, he’s always been inspired by the rough quality of vintage graphics that were created by hand. In his upcoming class, you’ll learn all about how he adds that signature “scrizz” to his digital designs—and why those little imperfections can actually make your work better.First, you’ll learn a bit about the history of graphic design, and explore some of the old artifacts and modern artists that inspire Draplin to add this crusty quality to his work. Then, you’ll dive into Photoshop to learn techniques you can use to add a little grit to your work, including how to:* Use basic tools to give your work a grainy, low-res look * Embrace human error to prevent your design from looking too perfect* Use halftones to create vintage-looking images* Take your work off the computer to get even weirder with it* Create the look of old printmaking and design techniques right on your computerThe best part is, these techniques and ideas are super simple and accessible to designers of all levels. Whether you want to create full vintage-inspired graphics, or just want to add a little bit of crust to make your work feel more human, you’ll finish class with some new skills in your graphic design toolkit to carry forward and use to elevate your work. And the couple things we did see, were sort of predictable digital print buttons? I kept looking, and never quite found something that hit the spot. We gave up and and walked over to the mall to get in our spot. We cried it out in that field with a couple million people, and watched history unfold. What an incredible morning!A week before the 2020 election, I kept circling around a couple graphics of Joe and Kamala, hopeful the polls and speculation would bring them over the finish line. But of course, the cynical side of me pushed back, fearing the worst. Another four years of Don the Con? Could America take it? Terrifying. What a national nightmare the last four years have been.So the night before, things were kind of looking up? I had already cast my vote for Joe and Kamala, and started to get fired up. They were going to take this! I could feel it, but didn't want to jinx it. From the first graphic I made on Nov. 2nd to seeing these items come to life today, I'm operating in this weird cloud of excitement for a new start for America, and, relief that conman turd is finally out of there.Congratulations to the 46th President of these United States, Mr. Joe Biden! Inspired by the Joe+Kamala's historic run-up to the 2020 election, Biden Bold was created on November 2nd, just a day before the historic, on-the-edge-of-our-Aerons, nerve-wracked election. Joe and Kamala's bold ideas and guts to stand up to Don the Con energized the bold geometry of Biden Bold.Aaron Draplin kicked off the basic forms for his election graphics, Stuart Sandler made sense of it all and built out the complete typeface and Dathan Boardman brought it to life in Glyphs. Thanks!©2020 DDC Dry Goods Div., Merch Dept., Portland, Ore. Product Description:Oh man, are these AWESOME. And not like, 13/16 (.8125) awesome....like 100/100 (1.0) awesome. It's a couple times a day where I have to whip open up my little calculator app to get a decimal equivalent. Be it for a patch 3/8 (.375) of the day, or a decal 7/16" (.4375") away from the edge. Or even a tolerance on a poster trap at 3/32 (.09375") where the colors overlap. And it's like 29/32 (.90625) embarrassing. I was raised by a dad who gave these to his machine shop customers. Handheld versions 11/64 (.171875) of the time, and wall versions 49/64 (.765625) of the time. And those bad-asses lived by them. I have a couple of vintage ones in the DDC Archives, but just know if I started using them, I'd beat the hell out of them like 17/32 (.53125) of the time and they go missing or whatever. Fed up, I made my own. And friends, THESE ARE THE REAL DEAL. These charts proudly feature our mighty "DDC Hardware" typeface from top to bottom. The EXACT same material and manufacturing processes as you'd see on a nameplate on a piece of Boeing machinery. Exactly the same. So proud of these. Already used mine twice today! Dang.Special thanks to Steve from IGN in Vancouver, Wash. for the help on this one! Thank you, sir. They turned out PERFECT.Product Details:01. Holy shit!If you still have the link in an open window, please do not purchase. We are out of the watches for the time being. We are counting up the orders, to see what the final tally was. Pretty sure we oversold, and if we did, we will refund your money, with instructions about the third edition. Stay tuned!THANK YOU FROM ALL OF US AT THE DDC! And thank you to Timex for the second edition run! FRIDAY AT HIGH NOON: That’s when the link goes live for our the second edition run of our “TIMEX x DDC Standard Issue Scout Watch!" We’ve got a good chunk on deck and THEY ARE READY TO GO! (I know some people missed out on the first offering in December, and thanks for your patience.)The purchasing link goes live at noon Friday, PST, right here the main page at draplin.com. On the East Coast, that is 3 PM EST. Just being crystal clear. This is the 48-hour warning, as these are going to go quick when the link goes up. Weird, I know, but we sold 240 in 15 minutes that last time, and it kind of blew us away.Couple things to think about:01. We use PayPal. So please check your PayPal account to make sure your email and shipping address lines up with the email and shipping address you use day to day. We had problems when we’d send notifications to old emails and folks would get riled up when they didn’t see it. And, had some watches sent back that were undeliverable due to old mailing addresses. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can check out as a guest on their site.02. International orders require extra shipping charges. Place the order as you would, and we’ll reach with further instructions. Check your “trash” and “spam” folders if you don’t hear from us.03. We do our best to ship these out QUICK. The orders will come in Friday, and we’ll have the weekend to process and get them out as soon as we can. You will receive tracking notification when they ship. 04. The watches are $84.99 plus $15 shipping/handling.Thank you and see you Friday! SALUTING THE GROCERY STORE MANAGERS: Ive partnered with Adobe to honor todays heroes. I thought a lot about honoring someone I knew. A number of frontline friends fluttered through my brain, but then it hit me: It had to be someone I didn't know. The couple times we've left the house to hit our neighborhood grocery stores have been surreal. Over and over, I found myself wanting to thank each stocker, deli counter meat-slicer, security guard and cashier. So I created "Grocery Gratitude."It just kept washing over me: how amazingly brave are these people? Putting themselves at risk like this? Powerful stuff. For the rest of us. Think about the folks we often take for granted. During this scary time, and once we get through this.We appreciate you, Eric S. THANK YOU for keeping the crew members' morals up and making sure facts are known and squashing rumors that are started from fear. Thank you for working side by side with the rest of the crew even though you are manager, you are outside spraying carts down with the rest of them.I also wanted to dedicate this piece to my friend Rod Snell, who's a nurse working in Hillsboro, Oregon. Now, I'd like to personally invite you to use your creativity to honor a hero in your life, those who keep our world turning. Share your creation with #HonorHeroes and tag @adobe. Now, go further than ever before as Aaron pulls back the curtain on how he makes the merch he’s famous for. From pins and patches to posters and hats, well-designed merch can be a designer’s dream—if it’s done right. Enter, Aaron Draplin. For the past 15 years, Aaron has been designing the best merch in the biz. Now, he’s sharing the tips, tricks, and trade secrets he’s gathered over a career centered on making great stuff. With his usual straight talk and zero funny business (ok, maybe a little funny business), Aaron will walk you through every step he takes each time he wants to create something new—and might just share some never-before-heard stories of mishaps and mayhem along the way. From first idea to final delivery, you'll discover how to:- Choose a design that works- Find the best vendors to make your stuff- Create un-mess-with-able files for handoff- Make multiple merch pieces from one designPlus, Aaron shares the successes and failures behind his favorite designs, from the spectacular journey of his Space Shuttle design to the woeful tale of an ill-fated yardstick.Makers of all things are invited to join this class, whether you’re looking to expand the services you can offer your next client, open your own online shop, or make t-shirts for your family reunion. When you’re done, you’ll leave with the insider information you need to choose the right items, work with clients and vendors, and design great merchandise that’s a cut above the rest."DIG INTO THIS ONE with a click HERE!- - - -AND HEY: Don't forget our first five classes, either: 01. "Blatantly Black""Duck Brown""Industrial Green""Road Rash Red"Product Description:We finally made a bandana. Or handkerchief. Or bandit mask. Or headband. Call it whatever the hell you want. There are many, many ways to use this thing. We provide a list to get you going on the item. Add to that list and let us know. We're calling the thing an "Ass Pocket Handkerchief".My dad always had a handkerchief in his back pocket. And let me just tell ya, you didn't want to see that thing "later in the day" as there was a good chance the thing was crusty with who-knows-what, all wadded up in his ass pocket*. I remember him whipping that thing out and wiping our noses and faces, and the things being crusty with...well...I still don't really know? What I'd give to have my dad wipe my face again in 1979. Or 2017. Good memories. Come back, Dad. (*"Ass Pocket" is an R.L. Burnside reference to a bottle of whiskey that'll fit in your back pocket. This handkerchief will fit back there too, hence the name.)Ordering Details:$21.99+ $4 Shipping (U.S.A.)The Fine Print:For customers using PayPal, click the link above they'll take it from there.
