ACE is managed by a volunteer board of directors at least half of whom are seniors. ACE is funded through Legal Aid Ontario and is the first legal clinic in Canada to specialize in the legal problems of seniors.ACE provides direct legal services to low-income seniors, public legal education, and engages in law reform activities. ACE services and activities are in relation to areas of law of special importance to the seniors' population.IMPORTANT - STOP BILL 175Connecting People to Community Care Act, 2020ACE made submissions on Bill 175 to the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly on June 16, 2020.Bill 175 proposes sweeping changes to the home care system in Ontario. If passed, it will adversely affect the more than 700,000 people who rely on home care, the majority of whom are seniors. The Bill also has implications for the provision of care in public and private hospitals and for the delivery of non-licenced congregate care. This is not the time to be passing legislation which so profoundly changes health care in Ontario.ACE recommends the withdrawal of Bill 175 in its entirety, pending further study and broad consultation with key stakeholders, particularly seniors and disability-rights advocacy groups, especially in light of the lessons that can be learned during COVID-19.PLEASE IMMEDIATELY CONTACT YOUR MPP, MINISTER OF HEALTH CHRISTINE ELLIOTT, AND PREMIER DOUG FORD TO DEMAND THE WITHDRAWAL OF BILL 175 PENDING FURTHER STUDY AND BROAD CONSULTATION WITH STAKEHOLDERS.What's New?
