This group established the FairHousing Council because, while some discriminatory housing practiceshave been eliminated, recent surveys made clear that equal access tohousing is far from a reality in many parts of the country, includingSan Antonio, Texas. The Fair Housing Council works to eliminate discriminatory housingpractices against persons because of their race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin. To accomplish this, the Council performs investigations of housing discriminationcomplaints, advocacy, community education and outreach, and fairhousing trainings to both housing consumers and housing providers abouttheir rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act. The Fair Housing Council works to promote fair housing because theresults of housing discrimination have far-reaching implications. Aperson’s housing choice affects more than his or her place ofresidence. Access to housing means access to quality education, employment opportunities, banking institutions, medical facilities, retail establishments, transportation, parks, and other public services. For more information about the Fair Housing Council of Greater SanAntonio, please contact (210) 733-3247 or visit its Internet website at www.myfairhousing.org. backto top ABOUT THE ENTERPRISEFOUNDATIONThe Enterprise Foundation is a national, non-profit housing andcommunity development organization launched in 1982 by Jim and PattyRouse.
