Home Thank you for visiting this site about the 139th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. This regiment was formed in August 1862 and mustered in on September 1, 1862. They were part of the Army of the Potomac for most of the war and fought in many of the major battles of the war including Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor, Opequan Winchester and Cedar Creek. They also took part in the Siege of Petersburg, repulsed Early s attack on Washington and took part in the Appotmattox campaign that lead to Lee s surrender.
