Transitions and Effects

Transitions and Effects are made to make the cut in between two shots look more normal or help create a particular Effect. Examples of Transitions:

Straight cutDissolveFadesWipesGraphic Match

Straight Cuts Is a transition that is used very commonly used in films and movies it is an invisible cut. When a straight cut happens the audience will are unlikely to notice it. Straight cuts make scenes look more realistic. Straight Cuts do not break the audience suspension of disbelief.

Dissolve cut are shot slowly fade from one shot to another in the middle of this sequences you are able to both images so the original image and then the one replaying it. This can be done with videos.

Fade cut is kind of similar to dissolve but instead of fading into another image it fades into blck or white this is done a lot if someone becomes on conscience

A wipe cut is one of the least used cuts it looks very strange when used. because it is very hard to use and make it look normal and not break the audience focus. the wipe cut pushes the last scene acroos the scene and put the new one in its place is seen a lot in star wars

Graphic match is technically not an transition because it is not put in between to scenes. It is actually to normal scenes put together in a very particular way so it looks very similar to the image before this normally done so the audience can see that the two scenes link.

Following the action is when you follow the person that is being filmed movements or actions that they do. This is done so the audience can see the actor in more angels than one and maybe get a better idea of the charter if that was the purpose of why the technique is used.

Multiple points of view can be used when there is more than one charter in sequence this technique can be used to allow the audience see more than one charter in one scene.

Speed ofEditing
Speed of editing is how editors makeaudiencefill a certain way depending on how fast or slow acertainsceneis edited.. if asceneis shot fast it is is most likely means theeditoris tryingto createsuspense for the editors. If the speed if slow this will most likely the editor wants a scene to be more relaxed orromanticdependingon the film. if the edit is fast the scene will also be fast this means that will be a lot of cutsin-contrastto if the edit was slow this would make scene mush longer this could be because the editor wants the editor audience understand something or learnsomethingetc that happened in theparticularsceneit alsobe an important past of a film so it needed to last longer than others.
Cross Cutting
Cross cutting is when to differentsequences are showed in the same scene. This is done to let the audience know that both thesequencesarehappeningat the same time but indifferentlocation. But are connected in some way shape or form.

CutAways

A cut away is when an editor decides to cut from one scene to another scene this is done tointerrupt the last scene. This is used when a jump cut is not necessary.

Creating Pace

Creating pace is when you an editor decides if a certain scene needs to quick or long. if a film is fast paced then their will be a lot of quick shots with a lot cuts happeningfrequently. If film is slow paced on the other hand their will be a lot of long scenes and their won't be as many cuts.

Non - Continuity
Non - Continuity editing was founded in the 1950s and was extremely popular through out 1960s. The filmmakers Jean luc Gordan and Francois Truffaut were one the first to use this type of editing Non-Continuity editing is when two or more shots are mismatched to make a scene look disrupted this is done so the audience is more alert and also they think more. This could be done with flashbacks.

A director may use a Non-Continuity type of editing style to keep the audience focused and so they notice why pacific scenes are filmed the way they are. The editing style could also be used to shock the audience and make them wonder why a certain film was shot it that particular way.

Task Seven Understanding Continuity Editing

Continuity editing is a editing style that was created to smooth over and replace discontinuity editing.Continuityediting is useda lotwhen making films. the mainpurposeis to makeshot look logical and makesceneto the viewer and a film or show goes on.

Match on Action is when the editor of a film cuts from one shot to another that mathces the last action from the shot that was previous done.
Eye lineis the path that the eye is looking for. It istypicallyused when people are havingconversation some people may say that is like reverseshot

Reverse shot/shot is a technique used when characters are talking you need to take a shot of charter speaking or looking at something then another shot will be taken of another charter to show the illusion that aconversationis going on.

The 180 degree rule, helps film makers to understand what angle that they are filming in the first shot and where the next shot should be filmed due to this.
