We reopened in August in compliance with the sector guidance and created a safe and welcoming experience for our visitors. Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to present challenges to the sector and the current restrictions are having an impact on our visitor figures and income. This temporary closure means that we can utilise the job retention scheme in an attempt to safeguard the museum.Chief Executive, Mhairi Cross said “Since the end of the school October break and the introduction of T3 restrictions NMMS has seen a significant drop off of visitors which has had a subsequent effect on our income. We have been extremely grateful for the support of our visitors and the local community since we re-opened on 20th August, however, the restrictions across the country have led us to this very difficult decision to temporarily close our doors again.”While the museum is closed the museum will still be active on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.If you would like to help support the National Mining Museum Trust during these uncertain times you can donate at https://www.totalgiving.co.uk/appeal/undercroft
