Shipping has ended until late summer/early fall. Many varieties that are sold out now will again be offered. Welcome to Gardens in the Wood of Grassy Creek, a small on-line and mail order nursery in North Carolina specializing in violets, particularly Viola odorata cultivars. Propagation goes on all year long, and additional plants and new varieties are added as they become available.Be sure to check this site often if something is sold out because there are always more plants waiting in the wings.Shipping: Your plants will be shipped in the most affordable and expeditious method available. Most plants in the eastern half of the US will be shipped by UPS, so be sure to give a physical address when ordering. Plants in the western half will be sent by USPS Priority Mail because it's faster. Lastly, in compliance with CA agricultural restrictions, plants shipped to California must be sent bare root and will be sent by USPS. Shipping charges are not an exact science, nor are they the exact amount charged by USPS or UPS. A modest fee is included for cost of boxes, packing tape, UPS pick-up or delivery to UPS, and the time it takes to pull plants, to remove damaged leaves,to remove all trace of soil if going bare root (and, believe you me, this requires a great deal of time and water), computer ink for invoices and shipping labels, etc. Shipping Dates: Gardens in the Wood ships according to the USDA zones and the weather conditions here in Grassy Creek, as well as the plants' individual growing requirements and/or idiosyncrasies. In general, shipping does not begin until April. Please do not ask to have plants sent at times that are inappropriate for your growing area and/or impossible for ours. It really just depends more on the readiness of the individual plants and not the climate of where they are being shipped. Violets are not shipped in summer but will be shipped again in late summer/early fall.Sizes: Most plants are in quart-sized pots.Ordering by Mail: If you feel uncomfortable ordering online, you may order by mail. Just jot down what you want on a piece of paper with your name, physical address, phone number, email address, and any other instructions you might have and mail it to the address at the bottom of the page with a check or money order.
