Yo Kai, I'm pretty sure Aladdin takes place in Agrabah. :D
Unless the movie lied to me.

Kai C said

at 7:33 pm on Apr 5, 2010

I meant, where is Agrabah based off of?
It has a sultan and curvy building tops?

BTW, since you're smart, can you answer a question for me? Where did Tarzan get his loin-cloth? To relate that to history, why did people even invent or need them? Did native people (Indians) and stuff really wear them? Or is it just in the movies :(

@Kai

Many male Egyptian workers wore loincloths while working in agriculture, wood, metal, leather, and tailoring jobs. A lot of guys just worked naked but they needed more protection in these types of jobs so they came up with a loin cloth that was sometimes made of leather and could either be worn with just the triangular part hanging in front or, if the loincloth was made with a longer triangle in the front it could be brought between the legs and tucked into the back strap of the loin cloth. The loin cloth eventually evolved into the loin skirt which is more commonly seen in well known Egyptian images.

Kai, I honestly would say that Aladdin takes place somewhere in the Middle East. I would guess maybe Iran because the Arabian Nights song thing, as well as hints to the story of One Thousand and One Nights.
As for the Tarzan thing, look at the student's response above mine and also add in that it would logical to do so, especially if you're in a jungle and need protection for more delicate areas of the male anatomy.

Ms. Boivie herself said that Aladin took place in the Middle East, Kai.

What's so special about Poland? Hitler enters Poland and Britain and France start freaking out. Is there something that makes Poland valuable?

Why is it that communism cannot be implemented in its pure form? The way Karl Marx envisioned it.
If humans are naturally greedy, then there is no way for a socialist ecomony to come to fruitition, right?

Shawn P. said

at 7:24 pm on Apr 15, 2010

@ Kai

Me and Knue had a conversation about this earlier this week. We came to the understanding that fundamentally, the human mind is centered on one thing: more. More knowledge, power, wealth, etc. No matter how you implement communism, you cant expel the basic human want for more. Also, without a constant regulation of equality, the purest communism is still flawed, and finding a living being to regulate the equality would cause someone to have more power over everyone else. Anyways, it is impossible for a pure communist regime to be implemented in a human society.

RANDOM QUESTION!!
I was playing this game, civilization revolution, and it has lots to do with world history. There are two people Saladin of Arabia and Otto von Bismarck of Germany. In our class we I dont think we talked about them, but the other characters of this game we have.Who are they and do they not have a great impact as other leaders?

Dominic B said

at 3:36 pm on Apr 19, 2010

Jonahhhhh!!!!
I'm hurr to answer yo question.

I remember talking about Saladin in class a few months ago. He was a famous Muslim warrior/general who led his people against the Crusaders and gained back the cities that were taken from them. Saladin did have a great impact, as many people still pay homage to him in passing, as well as being praised by even his enemies for his brilliance.
Otto von Bismarck was definitely in our reading and was actually a vocabulary card (I think) and he was the first chancellor of Prussia and is credited with uniting Germany. I'd check Chapter 23 in our textbook for more info.

Kai C said

@Jonah

Otto Von Bismarck was a vocabulary card. Otto Von Bismarck (1815 - 1898) was a Prussian Chancellor. He is most famously noted for uniting Germany.

Bismarck unified Germany by initiating several wars. In an Alliance with Austria, Prussia won Schleswig-Holstein in 1864 from Denmark. To exclude Austria out of the treaty with Denmark, Bismarck waged war against Austria. The Battle of Kniggratz annexed Hanover, Hesse-Kassel, Nassau, and Frankfurt to Prussia and formed the North German Confederation. In 1870, at the end of the Franco-Prussian war, the North German Confederation obtained Alsace and Lorraine. The German Empire was proclaimed at Versailles on 18 January 1871 by King William I as Emperor.

Bismarck isolated France from other powers. (Economically and Politically) He set up alliances with Russia. Bismarck made sure Austria-Hungary and Russia never made a treaty. He was removed from power by Kaiser Wilhelm II. Bismarck was a good diplomat. He is an important leader in European history.

About your Poland question Kai, I'm pretty sure the reason Poland was attacked was because it was so close and weak. A quick look on a map shows us that it was valuable land, not only was it by the sea, it also bordered Russia.

Kai C said

@Shawn

What if we created a robot society? Haha; I had the same type of idea. Which do you think is better? A society where there is no social inequality. There are no Haves and Have Nots. Or a society where through hard work and dedication even the humblest man can make it big?

Does anyone have any tips for reviewing the chapters?

JonL said

at 2:51 pm on Apr 25, 2010

@Matthew O.

I usually just read the whole chapter without taking notes
that way I'm not pausing every few seconds to write something down, and the information seems more fresh, if you catch my drift.

Nicholas A. said

at 2:58 pm on Apr 25, 2010

@Jonl

I don't catch your drift, sir.

I read the chapter, pausing to do vocab on the day before, then on the next day, i take notes over the chapter. that way i have a day to reflect on the information that i wrote down and read, whilst doing vocab... if you catch my drift, that is.

JonL said

at 3:00 pm on Apr 25, 2010

@ Nicholas A.

I do catch your drift, and your concept seems like it would work very well. I usually just start the chapters a day late, so I'd probably have to procrastinate less for that strategy to work.

Nicholas A. said

at 3:05 pm on Apr 25, 2010

@Jon L

Actually, it would save you more time by just taking a quick 30 minutes to an hour. Then, the day after, you'll see that you saved more time by doing this strategy... drift

I think it's pretty obvious that most people would say a society where through hard work and dedication even the humblest man can make it big. It's the kind of society most countries have today, especially here in America. That's why people see America as the best place to live. No matter what background you come from or how rich/poor you are to begin with, anyone can make it big and make their lives what they want it to be according to how hard they try. =)
