Description:

Last year the tech line was quite a party. We are looking forward to starting from Ensenada this year.. We have been working busily on the trucks for the last month, and now there are just 22 days until the race starts.  This year, we will begin in Ensenada, and race to San Jose del Cabo, covering more than 1300 miles in the process.  Watch for some pics from last year, as we get ready for the start of this year s race. Well,  We have to leave Friday.   We have enlisted one of our sponsors Valley Spring Services ( Unbelievable Shop!!! ) to help get us over the goal line.  While finishing up yesterday with a Turbo installation on one of the Trucks, we found out the rear main seal was leaking.  It took working from 3pm to almost midnight to get that taken care of, but it looks good now .. Today the Registration is complete.  We will be racing numbers 75, and 76   There is still much work to do on the trucks, but we will make and be ready for the race on the 27th.  Link on the photo and check out some of the other entries. We have begun working with the suspension guys, Phil at Valley Spring is doing the assessment for our budget suspension needs beginning on Monday They have released the mileage maps for the race.  It goes from Mexicali all the way to Cabo   Should be a great Race   The blazers are coming out of fabrication on Friday  Look forward to some pics \NORRA_2013RallyMileageMAPsr It does not matter how rich you are, how smart you are, or where you come from, you hate going to the DMV.  It is true, and late night TV has made fun of it for years.  Somehow, the DMV manages to attract the least intelligent, least flexible people in the world.   It does not matter if you are getting your driving license, or license plates ( Or in Berk s case both ).Since I had already been through the DMV Title, registration and plate procedure, I figured I would let Berk do the waiting in line, and he needed both a new picture, and the title work done.  He called in a panic, Where are you?   I m in the parking lot.   Just get in here, quick! Berk having completed the wait was at the counter, was explaining that we wanted two historical plates in sequence (he called it in order for the counter gal).  She began yelling at him, (which exhausts the little patience he was born with), and saying You have to wait in line again,  he can t just come up here.  She followed that up with, (and it s a gem), I AM NOT going to go through our stacks of license plates looking for one with the same number  We explain that we just need her to get two plates in a row, off of the stack, and we are getting two plates at the same time. She finally left the counter and gave Berk and I a 15 minute chance to catch our breath while she looked for the list price in her books.   After we finished getting caught up, I called her over and told her I can help her find it (I had to do that with the last one), and she replied, I still have to look it up.  After another 5 minutes (It is as if they don t know the alphabet, or the sequence of numbers) I convinced her to let me take the 10 seconds necessary to show her where to look. Finally, I hand her the previously issued plate from the first Blazer and she discovers that my last DMV visit yielded a plate that was not even  in the computer.  Good thing I did this twice.Alas,  TJX-05, and TJX-06 While Berk is off enjoying his honeymoon, Finally!  I thought I d give a go at getting the title and registration for the first Blazer.  I  filled out the SF97 request, which is code for Online, government form.  I was not sure what was coming, but my mail carrier posted a delivery attempt on my front door.  She was very nice, and taped it to the window so I saw it right away.  I figured she was still in the neighborhood, so I jumped in my car and tracked her down.  I received a United States Government, Certificate to Obtain Title to a Vehicle.   I guess that s why they say SF97.  Well, with that in hand, and having passed through our emissions tests, I went down to the third party title agency.  They generally have no wait, and I was able to go on President s Day.  She looked at my SF97, typed into the computer, looked quizzical for 2 minutes and gave up.   You will have to go to MVD for this one, but they re not open today. I thought the wait at MVD on Tuesday after a holiday would be unbearable, but I only sat and played on my iphone for 30 minutes.  I was greeted with a kind smile and good attitude.  I handed over my SF97.   The smile turned to a blank stare, Let me go and check with my lead..  I ll be right back.  Three people, a serious conference and 15 minutes and I was out of there.  I had the plate in hand, title and registration.  Total for the year $23 and change. Just to clear up any misunderstanding, we traveled to Texas and picked up Chevrolet motor vehicles, and not old military regalia that have epaulets and brass buttons.  We have had a couple of comments wondering why we went a third of the way across the US for Military Blazers.  Some were thinking we got into vintage army clothing.  Having that clarified, on to the business at hand, the saga of four guys, two ex-military Chevy Blazers and the quest to compete in the Mexican 1000 desert race.  All this on a strict, marriage-preserving budget.Phase two is now complete- the initial prep job on the Blazers.  We spent the past week We don t this do we?? and bit rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty.  The team re-wired the Chevys, converting the electrical system from 24 to the industry standard 12 volts. The change to 12 volts required new starters that were ordered online, Berk did the dirty work on his Chevy while Billy enlisted the services of East for Blazer number 2. Once the wiring was behind them,Larry and Berk took a day off and cruised Phoenix’s finest auto wrecking yards in search of some small parts that were missing and some raw material for air cleaners.  We stumbled across two wrecked Izuzus that had just what we were looking for, two massive and identical air canisters that our fabrication master, Moe will mount up front in the clean, coolHey There s 2air behind the Chevy grilles.  We paid the paltry some of $15.50 each.Following the mechanical procedure we applied a liberal amount of elbow grease and a large quantity of industrial-strength janitor-in-a-drum (lemon scented) to the flat green steel. We then power washed the years of grunge out of the mighty Blazers. The ordeal of passing the Chevys through the Arizona State stringent emissions test was the next step to having the Blazers licensed and on the road. What we discovered was I ve never seen this!! It has no emissions stuff Berk s low tolerance for government bureaucracy and how you can ask 6 different people the same question and get 6 different answers relating to passing an emissions-exempt (according to the manufacturer s sticker plainly affixed to the vehicle) 1984 diesel Chevy through the test.  Ultimately the mission was accomplished.  We were $19 lighter but we had one smoke-belching Blazer cleared. Minutes later, Billy rolled into another testing station and called the manager out to the line, where he was four deep waiting for the same confusion.  His pre-emptive suggestion to call the manager of Berk s favorite station proved fruitful.  After pencil whipping the entire checklist, the tester brought a failure report over…  He then said, Wait…. and brought back the pass.   The manager looked across the bay and gave a nod and thumbs up…   A nod is as good as a wink…With the first stage mods done three quarters of the team dragged out the monkey suits It goes right there and took a meeting with some higher ups at a certain provider of nourishment and libations in an effort to secure a sponsor for the Mexican 1000 project.  After-wards the boys retired to the local Tilted Kilt for some Sam Adams and wings before trekking up to their friend Moe s to drop off the spick and span trucks for the roll cage install;  One the many other details Moe will handle in the next few weeks.Check out the photos for the recent activities and in the meantime don t forget to live your dreams while there is still time to do so. On the way back, Saturday Morning was the test..   We had driven all day Friday, so the batteries were charged..    Here goes Start
