A new study investigates the important but unclear role of TNF-伪 in chronic spontaneous urticaria, confirming CSU is associated with activation of the TNF-伪 signalling pathway but crucially not the sFas/FasL system suggesting it is the pro-inflammatory function of TNF-伪 at play in CSU. Professor Richard WarringtonDr Warrington is Professor and Head of Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. He received his medical degree from the Royal London Hospital, London, England in 1968, and moved to St John鈥檚, Newfoundland in 1969 to help found the new Medical School at Memorial University. He received his PhD in immunology from Memorial University, in 1973. He trained in allergy clinical immunology at the University of Manitoba until 1976, when he joined the Section of Allergy Clinical Immunology in the Department of Medicine, which he has headed since 1982. From 1983 to 1996, Dr Warrington directed the Rheumatic Disease Unit Research Laboratory at the University of Manitoba.
