Welcome to Niles's webpage!

I am an associate professor in algebraic topology at The Ohio State University. I am a memberof the Department of Mathematics,and I teach on the NewarkCampus.

Research

My research interests extend towardboth categorical and computational aspects of algebraic topology.Categorical frameworks provide a context in which to develop the"brave new algebra" of structured ring spectra. I'm interestedparticularly in understanding Picard/Brauer theory and theirconnections with the Galois theory of ring spectra.

I began interacting with computational aspects of structured ringspectra in joint work with JustinNoel. This work includes computer calculations of poweroperations and an obstruction spectral sequence for maps of structuredring spectra. Some of my other computational work relates tolow-degree Lie algebra cohomology, in joint work withthe UGAAlgebra Group.
