Louisiana HospitalInform provides pricing data on the 50 most common inpatient and outpatient services, quality measures, general services offered,and hospital contact information.
Louisiana Hospital Inform charges should be considered as only a starting point for comparing costs of care between Louisianahospitals. Because each individual’s case is different based on that patient’s medical condition, a given patient’s charge will notnecessarily be the same as the average or median charge. The charges displayed only include hospital charges and do not includecharges that are billed separately by the physician or other professional fees. Furthermore, the actual amount paid by a patientwill depend on that patient’s insurance coverage. If you have insurance, contact your insurance provider to understand which costswill be covered and which will be your responsibility. If you are uninsured, contact your hospital for a price estimate. As requiredby the Affordable Care Act (ACA), hospitals have a written financial assistance policy that includes eligibility criteria, the basis forcalculating charges and the method for applying for financial assistance.
Louisiana Hospital Inform was created after recognizing the growing need for quality and pricing information for the consumer.This project was unanimously commissioned by the LHA Board of Trustees (BOT). The BOT also felt that it was necessary to have athird party be responsible for the pricing and quality data collection and reporting. As a result, the LHA contracted with AHD.comto oversee this task. Pricing information comes from MedPAR data and Medicare cost reports and is updated annually. The qualityinformation comes from Hospital Quality Alliance data, which is located on the Hospital Compare website.
