Houston Food Disaster Relief

Houston-based AAPI communities have been hit hard by the recent power outage which caused many to lose electricity, heat, and access to food and water. We ask for your support to raise $25,000 to provide packaged perishable foods to underserved Houston's AAPI communities.

$25,000 will provide for 500 families a large bag of rice, noodles, and a gift card to buy meat at an Asian grocery store. We will be assisting AAPI senior centers and families in the Asiatown/Chinatown area near Bellaire Blvd and the Vietnamese apartment village enclave in the Southside area.

Currently, these communities have little to no access or transportation to mainstream food distributions. We will organize food drop-offs/distributions to these communities in partnership with BPSOS-Houston, VNTeamwork, and other community partner organizations.

COVID-19 Vaccinations at Walmart

Walmart is currently administering COVID-19 vaccines in 45 states and jurisdictions in nearly 3,000 locations. And in support of the recent National COVID-19 Vaccine Asian American and Pacific Islander Listening and Learning Session, Walmart is providing in-language flyers that helps guide registration for vaccine appointments, and subtitled videos that walk through the online registration process. These resources are available in English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Hmong, Korean, and Vietnamese.

In partnership with local, state, and federal authorities, the vaccine is available through Walmart in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming, as well as Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C.

In May 2016,OCA-Greater Houston(OCA-GH) received a historic opportunity with a $1 Million Dollar 2-to-1 Matching Grant until the 2020 Census and2021 redistrictingby a National Foundation committed to helping theAsian American Pacific Islander(AAPI) community build capacity and sustainability to continue OCA-GH’s work developing future AAPI leadership and civic engagement (including Citizenship assistance).This means for every $1 you donate, the foundation will match with $2.OCA-Greater Houston is one of 25 national AAPI organizations selected for this program in recognition of the work the chapter has done for the community since 1979. TheLegacy & Leadership Campaignwill ensure the capacity building, sustainability, and growth of OCA-GH programs and builds on our current community partner relationships to bring together the power and reach of AAPIs in the Greater Houston Metropolitan area. The Asian American population in Greater Houston is growing at a dramatic rate, and we want to ensure that the civic institutions that serve the diverse Asian American communities will be able to keep pace with the population growth and build capacity for the future.
