TRAVEL TO SOUTH AFRICA

The country is on adjusted alert level 1 from 1 October 2021. This is a lower alert level following a decrease in COVID-19 infections as the country increases its vaccination drive. Domestic and international travel is permitted without restrictions, as long as the health protocols are followed.

Travellers must adhere to the health protocols in place when travelling.

These include:

Negative PCR test certificate

International travel to South Africa is allowed subject to the traveller providing a valid certificate of a negative COVID‑19 PCR test which was obtained not more than 72 hours before the date of travel from the country of origin. Passengers are required to carry a COVID‑19 negative PCR test certificate when travelling.

Verification of the COVID‑19 negative PCR test certificate taken no more than 72 hours before departure will be managed by the airport team as part of documentation checks at the time of flight departure.

All travellers will be screened for COVID‑19 symptoms and will be required to answer any questions required by the Health Authorities on arrival.

Required forms

All passengers must complete the traveller health questionnaire before arrival.

All travellers must provide proof of accommodation and their address while in South Africa in case they are required to self‑isolate.

All foreign passengers, irrespective of country of origin arriving in South Africa must have travel insurance that covers the cost of any testing or quarantine.

Required apps

All passengers are advised to install the COVID Alert South Africa app prior to travel.

Alert Level 1 regulations

The Embassy of the Republic of South Africa will render services to the public by appointment on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only. Embassy office hours during this period are between 10h00 15h00.

The processing of adult passport applications have been resumed and we now accept appointments for passports.
