The Veterinary Genetics Laboratory (VGL) is a non-profit, self-supporting unit of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis. We provide highly accurate genetic testing results and animal forensic services while also contributing to the educational and research mission of the school. VGL is internationally recognized as a pioneer and expert in animal genetic testing since the 1960s and is especially known for the timely and accurate results we provide our clients. VGL provides animal parentage verification, identification, forensics services, genetic diagnostics, and genetic research for a broad range of domestic species as well as primates and wildlife species.The VGL is well known for our exceptional customer service with faculty and staff highly skilled and trained in the genetics of multiple species. We offer testing directly to the public as well as on a contractual basis to breed registries and associations. The Veterinary Genetics Laboratory remains open and operational.Based on the many e-mails and phone calls we have received, we wanted to update our clients. We have been closely following University directives and are adhering to both State and University guidelines with respect to social distancing and operations. We have implemented remote analytics, where appropriate and feasible, as a preventative safety measure for VGL staff. While we don’t anticipate a delay in service and reporting of results on our end, there may be a delay in us receiving samples which could impact service and turnaround time.
