My friend Becky had a birthday this week. Of course that requires a card, so I decided to channel my inner Debbie Hughes to create a pretty watercolor image with lots of fun splatter and sparkle in the background. Today's card uses two stamp sets, along with their coordinating dies, from Honey Bee Stamps - the Spring Peony Stamp Set, and the Thanks a Bunch Stamp Set.I began by stamping some of the images from theSpring Peony Stamp Set, ontoa piece of Fabriano Artistico Extra White Cold Press Watercolor paper, using Antique Linen Distress Ink. Then I taped the watercolor panel down to my work surface, and painted the images using the 36 pan Altenew Watercolor Set. Once the panel was painted to my satisfaction, I allowed it to dry completely, before using a Prismacolor pencil (Dark Umber), with a very sharp point, to go in and deepen the darkest shadows. I used the coordinating Honey Cuts to die cut the images out, then set them aside while I worked on the background and sentiment.I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment pieces from the Thanks a Bunch Stamp Set, in Versamark Ink, and then heat embossed them in gold embossing powder. The "happy" was stamped onto vellum, and the "birthday" was stamped onto Rock Candy Card Stock. I die cut the "happy" using the coordinating Honey Cuts, and trimmed the "birthday" into a small strip.For the background, I began with a card front sized panel ofTin Pail Card Stock (4" x 5.25"). I splattered this with bothDark Roast Silk, andMidas Touch Nuvo Shimmer Pen- trying to concentrate the color in the lower left of the panel. Then, I adhered the watercolored floral pieces with liquid glue and foam tape.Then I mixed a little Winsor Newton Chinese White Watercolor Paint with water, and splattered that over the card front. I adhered the sentiment pieces, and attached the card front to a white card base. As a final touch, I added Nuvo Drops in Morning Dew, and Gin Tonic Sequins to the card to finish it off.Every now and again, I get on a kick of wanting to watercolor. It's such a pretty medium, and I always like the completed card. Hello!It's the 14th of the month, which means it's time for a new release from Picket Fence Studios. I have several cards to share with you, so this post is a little long. Grab a drink, and maybe a snack, and lets get started!As always, I want to give you a quick peek of the entire release before we dive into the cards. (All of the supplies used on the individual cards, will be listed at the bottom of the post, for reference.)Full October ReleaseCard #1 | Like HoneyThis card began by stamping the Honey Dear Stamp onto white card stock, in Black Hybrid Ink. I colored in the image with Prismacolor Pencils, and, once finished with the coloring, I die cut the image with the coordinating die.I stamped the sentiment from the Honey Dear Set in Versamark ink, onto black card stock, and white heat embossed it.The card front is a panel of yellow card stock, stamped with the Buzz Stamp (this stamp can be stamped to seamlessly repeat - it was stamped four times to create this panel), using a darker yellow ink. An additional white cardstock piece was ink blended with cream ink, using the Honeycomb Stencil, and a Life Changing Blender Brush - and was then die cut into a circle.The layers were adhered to a white card base, using liquid glue and foam tape. The final touch was a few gold pieces. Card #2 | For Being YouI began this card by stamping the bee images from the I Bee Fierce Stamp Set, onto white card stock, using Black Hybrid Ink. I colored in the bees using my Prismacolor Pencils. Then I die cut the images using the coordinating dies. I stamped the Thank You for being You Stamp onto some black card stock, using Versamark Ink, and white heat embossed it, before die cutting it using a circle die with some stitching detail.On another panel of white card stock, I ink blended Antique Linen and Tea Dye Distress Oxide inks through the Honeycomb Stencil, using theLife Changing Blender Brush. A broader brush was used to quickly apply the lighter color, while a fine brush was used to more carefully place the darker color.I mixed a combination of Snowdrop White, Daffodil Yellow, and Golden Rose Paper Glazes with some water to make a somewhat runny paint. I carefully applied that to the top of the ink blended panel, and allowed it to run down the card front. Once that panel dried, I attached the layers to a black card base, using liquid glue and foam tape. Card #3 | Like The BeeThis card began by ink blending Scattered Straw, Fossilized Amber, and Wild Honey Distress Oxide Inks onto a panel of white card stock, using a Life Changing Blender Brush. Once the ink was blended, I mixed a bit of Golden Rose Paper Glaze with water, and using a paint brush, I flicked this mixture over the card base. I repeated the process using the Brown Dahlia Paper Glaze. Once that was dry, I applied a mixture of Snowdrop White, and Golden Rose Paper Glazes through the Honeycomb Stencil.While that panel was drying, I stamped more of the bees from the I Bee Fierce Stamp set, onto white card stock, using Black Hybrid Ink. I colored them in with Prismacolor pencils, and die cut them using the coordinating dies. I also stamped a sentiment from the stamp set, in Versamark Ink, onto dark brown paper. The sentiment was white heat embossed, and then die cut using a circle die.Once all of the pieces were dry and ready, I attached them to a white card base, using liquid glue and foam tape. For a final touch, I added a scattering of sequins from the Gin Tonic Sequin Mix. Card #4 | Sponsored by CoffeeFor this card, I stamped the image from the Sponsored by Coffee Stamp Set in Antique Linen Ink, onto kraft card stock. I colored in the image using my Prismacolor pencils. No line coloring is a bit easier, when you use your darkest color to lightly color in the shadow areas first. This helps define the areas, and can be adjusted as you add additional layers of color.Once the image was colored, I stamped the sentiment in Black Hybrid Ink, onto the card front. I added a few small strips of dark brown card stock, then adhered the card front to a dark brown mat.The card front was then directly adhered to a white card base - super easy! Card #5 | October LeavesI began this final card by making a GIANT mess - and it was super fun! I taped an entire sheet of watercolor paper to my work surface, and then used a combo of yellow, orange, burgundy, green, and brown water colors to paint the surface (using the wet on wet technique). As the panel slightly dried, but was still damp, I loaded up my watercolor brush, and flicked color over the top. I allowed the panel to dry - and cleaned up my messy desk - before moving on to the next step.When the panel was fully dry (it's important it's fully dry, or your die cuts will have fuzzy edges), I die cut out leaves from the watercolor piece. I cut the Oak Leaves Dies in more of the orange/red tones, the Maple Leaves Dies in the more yellow/orange tones, and the Ash Leaves Dies in the yellow/green tones. Then I cut a few more of the leaves from both Gold Mirror paper, and Vellum.I adhered the leaves to a panel of woodgrain card stock, using liquid adhesive. I made sure to apply my adhesive at the stem portion of the leaves, so that I had the ability to tuck additional leaves in, as well as part of my sentiment strip. Once the leaves were all attached, I trimmed the overhanging portions from the side of the panel.On a strip of dark brown card stock, I stamped the sentiment from the A World of Octobers Stamp Set in Versamark Ink, and then heat set it in gold. I trimmed the left edge of the sentiment strip at an angle, and then adhered it to the card front, tucking it under a few of the leaves. I attached the panel to a white card base, and then adhered a few Bourban Maple Splash Sequins to complete the card. So, I'm curious - which card is your favorite? I really think the Like Honey card (#1) turned out adorable, but I had so much fun making the huge mess with watercolors for the October Leaves card (#5).I hope you found some inspiration today. One of my first thoughts when I saw the Speckled Egg Distress Ink, was that it reminded me of a winter sky. I've been meaning to use it as such for some time, but finally got a chance to sit down and play with some Distress Ink Watercoloring.For today's card, I used the Stay Cozy Stamp Set from Fun Stampers Journey. I stamped the images in Antique Linen Distress Ink. When stamping the cabin image, I masked off the snowman with a scrap of tape, and when stamping the additional trees, I used my finger to swipe off the ink from the stamp, where the images would overlap. Stamping in Distress Ink allows the lines to fade away into the watercoloring, but I did want to avoid having lines through the images entirely.I taped the stamped watercolor paper to my Glass Media Mat, and began coloring in the image. I used Gathered Twigs Distress Ink on the cabin, Pine Needles Distress Ink on the trees, Tumbled Glass and Pumice Stone Distress Inks on the snow, and some Speckled Egg Reinker on the sky. Once I was happy with the watercoloring, I came back in with a few of my Prismacolor pencils to add a few details. I added a coat of Glitter Gloss to the snow, and then mixed a bit of Chinese White Watercolor paint with some water, to splatter over the top of the image.I carefully removed the tape from the edges of the panel, and then trimmed it to card front size. I stamped the sentiment in Obsidian Amalgam Ink. I added the card front to a card base made from River Stone card stock (ETA: This card stock is unfortunately out of stock. I checked against other colors I had access too, and the Mushroom card stock from Concord 9th is just a bit darker, but has similar undertones).To finish off the card, I dotted some Gloss Whiteand White BlizzardNuvo Drops to the card front.Thanks for stopping by!Use this easy list to find the products I used in my projects. I chose the stamp set Face the Sun, because it fit both of those criteria.I began the card, by taping a white A2 sized piece of card stock to my work surface. I used the Life Changing Blender Brushes, to blend a gradient of Dried Marigold, Antique Linen, and Bundled Sage Distress Oxide Inks onto the background. Once I was happy with the blend, I added copious amounts of water droplets, then sprinkled the background with gold shimmer ink.I stamped the sunflower image from the Face the Sun Stamp Set, onto Pineapple Smoothie Card Stock, using Black Hybrid Ink. I lightly shaded the image with Prismacolor Pencils. Then I fussy cut the image, and mounted it on foam tape to attach to the background.
