Our Coach felt a little ill on Tuesday morning, June 23rd and stayed home to self-quarantine until getting tested. He was able to get tested on Thursday, June 25th and was notified of a positive result on Saturday, June 27th. He will continue to self-quarantine for more than 14 days and will not return to football practices until he has tested negative to the COVID-19 virus.   Fortunately, our Coach was very diligent and followed all CDC guidelines and Poway Unified School District policies and procedures during our practices including checking his temperature, answering the recommended health questions appropriately and wearing a mask whenever he was on campus and during group time. In response to this positive test result and in an abundance of caution, we are implementing our previously cancelled “Dead Period” which starts today and goes through July 12th. We will resume modified practices on July 13th. This Dead Period will act as an extended quarantine period (17 days including the past Friday and Saturday) for all the participants in our football program. We are also asking all our coaching staff to get tested for the COVID-19 virus.  You should monitor your health, by noting any coughing, sore throat, chills, fever or shortness of breath. We suggest that you get tested for COVID-19 to make sure you do not have the virus and continue following all CDC guidelines.   I am very proud of our Del Norte Football staff for being diligent and committed to following the procedures and protocols dictated by the San Diego County Health and Human Services as well as the Poway Unified School District. We have checked temperatures of every player and coach on practice days, asked them the 6 questions regarding their health and have worn masks when arriving, during health checks and getting ready for and after practices. The coaches have worn their masks for the entirety of practices and have kept social distancing throughout. I encourage you and your families to continue following State and County guidelines as outlined in the link below: https://www.sandiegocounty.gov/content/sdc/hhsa/programs/phs/community_epidemiology/dc/2019-nCoV.html We are committed to providing you and your son/daughter with the best football experience possible. We will continue to do everything we can to provide a safe, fun and effective atmosphere in the Del Norte Football Program. Please feel free to contact our Assistant Principal in charge of Athletics, Mike Giaime or me for any concerns you may have. Effort Attitude - Nighthawks! Leigh A.
