Get a personalized window into what is happening at the district and school - Download the Columbia Public Schools mobile app. Parent-Community University: Fall 2020 Columbia Public Schools will be hosting a series of live and pre-recorded webinars for parents, families and our community as part of this year’s Parent-Community University. The sessions will be held at various times July 28-August 6. The topics focus on areas related to our return to school this fall, including social-emotional needs, academics, getting ready for school, and technology. Sessions will be recorded and made available after the live sessions for those who may not be able to participate on a particular date and time. Comments (-1) Boone County advertising students recognized Hickman High School advertising students Walter Bratrud, Fletcher Orr, Sam Wills, Conor Byren, Kaylee DeMoss, Jasper Schomaker and Caleb Mitchell were presented with a proclamation from Boone County for their work in collaboration with the Woodruff Advertising Agency on developing a campaign for Boone County s Bicentennial celebration. The campaign All Trails Lead Home was developed over 18 months and includes a logo and tagline that will be included on the marketing items sold commemorating the Bicentennial celebration. Proceeds from the sales will go toward assisting a COVID-19 relief fund. The students, teacher Scott Fuenfhausen, and representatives from Woodruff participated in a virtual presentation of the proclamation on June 23. Comments (-1) As we plan for a school year likely to be continuously impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, our priorities are providing environments that are as safe as possible for students and staff, and providing equitable, guaranteed, and viable education. Therefore, Columbia Public Schools will be accessible to all students through a choice model. Students and families may ​choose​ to engage in their education in an ​online format or​ in-person​ (in a more traditional model). Comments (-1) Elementary Attendance Areas The Board of Education must regularly review attendance areas. In fall of 2019, the school district began discussion and work on attendance areas. Based on that work, the Board of Education approved new attendance areas for middle school and high school in winter of 2020. During the process, the Board of Education also identified the need to review elementary attendance areas to determine if there are areas that may need to be addressed due to population growth. In order to begin the process of reviewing elementary attendance areas and gathering feedback, the school-community is invited to participate in focus groups. Comments (-1) Thought Exchange Results Columbia Public Schools recently asked families to participate in a Thought Exchange about what school might look like when we return in August. There were more than 4,500 participants, nearly 7,000 thoughts, and more than 200,000 ratings. Comments (-1) Columbia Public Schools awarded for outstanding financial reporting The Association of School Business Officials International has awarded Columbia Public Schools the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended 2019. Comments (-1) Columbia Fund for Academic Excellence award winners Seven outstanding CPS educators are the recipients of this prestigious honor, which has been awarded to exemplary educators annually since it began in the 1979-80 school year through the work of Ray and Jeanne Lewis.
