On Sunday Beth Kingsley and Josie van Weerd won our Intermediate tournament. Many congratulations to them. A 70 percent score in the afternoon clinched the win for them!3 out of four top places were won by Cambridge pairs. Leonie Sentch and Irenee Stewart came third and Jenny Oxley and Margaret Oliver fourth. Jenny and Margaret won a session prize.Read more about Beth and Josie win Cambridge s Intermediate tournament After winning the Waikato bays Rubber bridge final Clare and Kevin then moved on to the national competition. They faced off against the Pair from Otago/Southland in the Rubber bridge national quarter final. With congress cancelled they had to play the match on BBO with Michael officiating.Read more about Clare and Kevin win their match against the Southland Otago pair. During the second lockdown Reg Anderson sadly died. He was a long standing and important member of our club who contributed hugely to the life of our club. Reg was President in 2006 and 2007. Allison on the podium!Well done to Allison Vince who came equal 9th after the final event in this year's Junior Championship League with 7 accumulated points from 3 events. Barb Wilson who only managed two of the three sessions came in 12th on the ladder. Our only other representatives this year were Kay, Gretchen and Diane. Nick Cantlon directed the final session at Te Awamutu and Michael Neels, representing the Regional Committee presented the prizes. Well done to all our 2020 prize winners. The match was played at Tauranga, and in a very close contest Clare and Kevin emerged as the Regional winners. The National Finals of this event, where the winning pair from each region will meet and compete for the Don Gifford Trophy will be played at the end of this month at Congress.Read more about Waikato- Bays Rubber Ducky success for Clare and Kevin. Congratulations to Kevin and Clare for their recent successes in our local tournaments. Playing in the Waikato Area Pairs they took second position collecting prize money and 4 A points. They followed this, competing in the Hamilton Swiss Pairs and, after a shaky start, they climbed the ladder and achieved second place, once again collecting a prize and 3 more A points. They are also finalists in the Rubber Ducky competition, having just won their semi-final.
