The population was 33,656 at the 2010 census.[1] The city is nicknamed Flintrock after large quantities of flint that exist along the Kinnitaugwa River. [2] It is also home to the prestigious Grossmorder University.History [edit]Perdition s Crossing was founded in 1823 by the merger of four smaller communities that had formed around the conflux of three rivers: the Kinnitaugwa, the Akron and a much smaller river known as Slippingstone Creek. These communities (Fort Kinnitaugwa est. 1780, Edgarton est. 1799, Bremeton est. 1803 and Mount Woning est. 1820) were originally trading outposts for the fur industry.[3] The official incorporation as a city occurred in 1842.[4]Perdition s Crossing earned its name in 1840 when a number of unfortunate occurrences hampered the joint efforts of the Eloign and Southern and Arkham Regional railroads to build a bridge over the Kinnitaugwa River. The incidents, which resulted in the deaths of over thirty men during the two year construction, initially marked the soon-to-be city as cursed,[5] but the tremendous prosperity that followed the completion of the bridge soon alleviated that onus.[6]Perdition s Crossing was originally planned to maximize the integration between the town and the railroad station. The station functioned not only as personal transportation, but was also central to the industries that sprang up, providing easy access to incoming materials and fast and efficient exportation of finished products.[7] This integration resulted as Perdition s Crossing sometimes being referred to as the city where Main Street never ends .[8]The two men most often credited with the industrial success of Perdition s Crossing are Edgar Grossmorder and Eblis Ahriman.[9] The Grossmorders had long been established in the area (emigrating from Germany in the late seventeenth century, founding both Fort Kinnitaugwa and Edgerton, as well as Grossmorder University),[10] while Ahriman (a graduate of Miskatonic University in Massachussets) was a relative newcomer, bringing a keen scientific mind and sharp business sense that took full advantage of the benefits of the industrial revolution.[11]References [edit]1. (Cassandra Jayne has come again...Collapse) Current Mood: accomplished (Comment on this)Monday, September 1st, 20081:45 am[bodhifox]What is this mysterious book? The Compleate Hande Booke of Folke-lore, Mystycism, Arcanea and Leadgerdemaine in the Sevene Knowen UniversiiThanks to prolixfootle, we have our title! And crowgirl13has posted a few comments of clarification that are spot on, as far as the type of posts we re looking for.She s agreed to be my co-mod, as soon asI figure out how. The italics are her take, responses mine:Well, you can write something that *is* true, to the best of our knowledge [ie. an analysis of amulets and practices used to avert the evil eye], something that *might* be true [ie. speculation on ritual uses of the neolithic stone circles in the British Isles], something that you *wish* was true [proven ways to communicate with the ghosts of New Orleans] or things that are simply made up [ie. A walking tour of Pennsylvania, mapping connections between ley lines and Manitou migratory patterns]. Fictional worlds and characters also work, of course.I like the mix of authentic scholarship and creative writing. Considering it was a Lovecraft reference that started me back down this oft considered but never taken path it just feels right.I think the problem here is there are a lot of different ways these entries can be written. It could be a scholarly article written by a gentleman mage from the city of New Cleveland or notes on ivy sprites from a rootwitch s gardening notebook, or a listing of haunted waystations along the Greater Saharan Highway, gathered collectively by a team of explorers. Type of entry depends on your character. The idea as I see it is a book added to over time and from different verses by many contributors. You can post a scholarly entry as yourself, in the persona of a character you create as author, or whatever. If you want to take the opp to use some of the worldbuilding you ve already done in your fiction, have at! I d suggest if you want to write a piece playing off someone else s contribution, just ask first. Entries are moderated, and I m thinking through and just setting this up, so please be patient with me.As an an explanation:I m envisioning this as a common sourcebook for stories, books, and games. The more random the submissions the better, like a book that wizards, mages, scholars, archaeologists, occultists, clergy, adventurers, and parapsychologists have added material to over the centuries as they came across the book... Something like a combined Roylance Guide to Secret Societies and Sects, Tobin s Spirit Guide, and Spates Catalog of Otherworldly Denizens and Designations. To clarify for anyone who might be interested, this will be an opportunity for contributors to enter magical, mythical, spiritual or paranormal phenomena from their own experience, research,or original fiction into a central text. Once it gets enough information, it should take on a life of its own. Then if we see an idea in the Guide, we may want to use it to write out into new fiction. Something multiversal and original, not copying fromalready created and copyrighted universes, (for instance, no Buffy or Howard Carter.) But Shayara? If song wanted to put in a concept or story from that verse, or me from my AU Plainswalker, or you from your original fiction, or a gaming system? Yes. And it would be fun to be able to play in each other s creations a bit too, with permission of the author. There have been plenty of compilations done that way. A core concept, and writers take it and give it their own twist. The commonality here would be The Handebooke. I d say local folklore is fair game. For instance, a Crybaby Bridge or Melonheads story you know from your area. You know, Winchester Bros. variety entries. Also entries playing on your unique takeon weres, or chupacabra, or wormholes, or whatever. But the most fun is placing in your own fictional concepts. Make it as fantastical or scientific as you like, and write each entry in persona. Steampunk, Pulp, Noir, other AU, anything goes. This book exists in multiple universes and paradigms at once.I m envisioning this as a common sourcebook for stories, books, and games. The more random the submissions the better, like a book that wizards, mages, scholars, archaeologists, occultists, clergy, adventurersand parapsychologists have added to over the centuries as they came across it.That means you, the members of the community. We may want to keep the whole thing private to members, in case we decide to publish it as a compilation of our efforts someday. Anyone interested?Opinions? More questions? Please be patient whileI learn the controls and build up the steam, and thank you for your attention. For now, this will probably be one of the only public entries.
