Professors encourage critical thinking in courses that address thought-provoking topics in multiple disciplines. SJC courses are open to all University of Alberta students for UofA Arts credits. Our residences, also open to all UofA students, provide close-knit community, excellent meals and extracurricular activities. SJC Student Services offer small groups focussed on various aspects of spirituality and all are welcome to the Eucharist, celebrated several times each week at the college. Statement on Racial InjusticeThe Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities in Canada released the following statement on racial injustice on June 9, 2020.As leaders of Canada s Catholic post-secondary sector, we are expressing our deep concern regarding the racial injustices that have sparked outrage, protests and many overdue and important discussions in the United States. We are fully aware that inequality and injustices caused by systemic racism are also very much present in Canada today, a legacy of our country s colonial history. This systemic racism has and continues to impact Indigenous peoples, those of African descent, and others of visible and non-visible minorities.Moving forward we are committed to creating, promoting and nurturing inclusive environments on our campus, with respect to all our students, faculty and staff, as well as for those in our broader society. As Catholic educators, Pope Francis asks us to educate for the head, heart, and hands. This applies to our treatment of those in our campus communities and the broader society in which we live. True education requires an underlying commitment to social justice and equality.
