Ron was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, into a family of builders. He began using woodworking tools at an early age as he helped with the family business. He developed not only a skill, but a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of wood.He graduated with an education degree from Edinboro University and a masters degree from Wilkes University, both in Pennsylvania. He was a teacher for 34 years and owned a photography business for 12 years. Now retired and living in Arizona, Ron has turned his life-long hobby into a full-time endeavor. These days he's either working in his shop, travelling to mills, or searching the internet for the perfect piece of wood. With today's technology he maintains relationships with suppliers across the country who help him find exceptional pieces of wood, especially the burls for which he has become noted. My passion is turning nature's art into functional art. I look for unique hardwoods and burls, both domestic and imported. Every piece in its natural form is one-of-a-kind and has its own story. A lot of the wood I use might have once been left to decay in the forest, used as firewood, or sent to landfills. Nowadays, however, it can be found in specialty mills and is becoming increasingly valuable. My designs focus on preserving the natural color and integrity of the wood while adding other media such as glass or metal to complement it. My hope is that each piece will be treasured, not only today but for generations to follow.
