Friday, February 26, 2021 2020 has come and gone.......what a year!!!!!!

Well, today is February 18, 2021, so obviously, I have missed my deadline of trying to write on this blog the beginning of the new year. Where do I start in trying to sum up 2020? First of all, it was hard on absolutely everyone....not just me!!!

It did not start out all that bad. I was doing my ESS teaching at both elementary schools and had several homebound students. Things were pretty normal as I worked Monday through Thursday. I did errands for mama on Friday morning. About every other week Tara's five kids come and spend the night. What joy they all five bring into my life!! Of course I love University of Kentucky basketball so I was having so much fun watching the games and following them. They were improving and it was getting close to the SEC tournament the middle of March. I had been hearing on the news that there was this horrible disease in China, but it was not really a concern of me. On March 12th as I was leaving South Todd Elementary that I got a text from Josh saying that the SEC tourney in Nashville had been cancelled. I was furious!!! I really though UK was going to do really well in the tournament, It all started going down from there. Little did I know that when I left school that day, that I would not return to in-person school until October of 2020.

The disease was scary, of course, but I also lost a lot of income when school closed. I was so blessed to still have homebound students that I could contact by phone, so that helped quite a bit. I got tired of everything being cancelled, no church, no meetings, no ballgames, no anything. It did help that spring was coming soon because I love being outside, planting flowers, mowing, landscaping, so that helped me a lot. I began going to get groceries for my mom, my mother-in-law, and myself. That almost turned into a full time job. I got really tired of wearing a mask, but everyone else did as well. I did get to spend time with my grandkids who live close, I just did not get to see Abby and Avery very often. I started a zoom Bible study and was so glad to have the opportunity to facetime Abby and Avery and several of my close friends.

Things began to open up a little in the summer. I enjoyed spending time at the lake with Josh and Jessica and I do love summer anyway. That helped me get through the rough times. We started back to church in-person, we just had to wear masks and stay 6 feet a part. It was so much better to be in church!!!!! My 67th birthday was fun because we actually went to Patti's and ate. We also celebrated Avery's birthday as well and we spend some fun time at the lake. When school started in August, they started virtually, but I still had homebound students. I also started tutoring a little girl and I had been doing a program called "VipKid" which is an online program teaching English to Chinese students. It was lots of fun.

On September 11th I was blessed with granddaughter no.7 and grandbaby no. 8, Lexie Ann Powell. She is absolutely beautiful and I was so excited and proud!!!! So there were good things that happened in 2020!!! School actually started back in-person in October. I was so glad to begin doing ESS at South Todd Elementary. I also started working at North Todd Elementary in November; however, 3 days later, the cases got much higher, so they shut down again to virtual, there went my job again. I did miss lots of income, but I did continue to keep my homebound students. I was also blessed that none of my kids lost jobs due to the pandemic. My eldest daughter is a teacher and she continued to teach online. My son is a salesman and even though he did have to do a lot of work from home, he still had his job. My youngest daughter is a stay at home mom and homeschools. Her husband is a farmer, so the pandemic did not affect his job either. I am so sad about all the people that did lose jobs and businesses. I am totally blessed.

Halloween was fun with all five of Tara's kids and Lexie was the cutest Minnie Mouse ever. I am so blessed with the most wonderful grandkids on earth!!

Thanksgiving was different since not all my family got to attend. Mom and Dad did not come and neither did Abby and Avery. We did go to Patti's once again and saw the Christmas lights. Christmas was fun, but again, a little different since we could not all get together. I still had fun on Christmas Eve Eve when most of my family was at my house and it was Lexie's first Christmas.

Covid-19 has been horrible!!!!!!! I pray daily that the vaccines will come soon and we can get our lives back. This year has truly been hard. I still feel blessed and I know God is in control. My faith in Him has pulled me through!!!

No comments: Wednesday, January 1, 2020 January 1,2020 Another year is gone!It is so hard for me to imagine that it has been two decades since the year 2000. I remember that New Year's Eve because Jim was recouping from back surgery and everyone was so nervous about what all the computers would do, etc. Wow..... 20 years have passed since then.

2019 has had so many ups and downs. It started with me still being so worried about Chanda and Adam. They were struggling to keep their house. Adam had lost another job because of his drinking. They kept waiting for a letter saying that the bank was foreclosing. Josh was very depressed. He really did not like his new job. He had moved to Cadiz and had changed jobs with Local Seed Co, but he did not like it. Whenever my kids are struggling, I am too. So the first few months of 2019, I was definitely struggling.. We went to Louisville to celebrate Abby's 13th birthday and we also celebrated Mama J's 90th birthday. Those were definitely happy times.
In February Josh and Jessica took a trip to a sunny, island and he proposed to Jessica Turner. and I could see how happy he was. That definitely lifted my spirits. They also came to Elkton to celebrate Marshall's 1st birthday. Jessica got to meet Mama and Daddy and they seemed so happy and everything was good. A few days later I got a phone call from him saying that he hated all my family and he could never be around any of them every again. This totally broke my heart. I wanted to cry. Another sad incident happened with Abby. She ran away from home. It scared us all!!! She called and was back home later the next day, but so scary and she definitely has issues. She stayed at the Brooks for a couple of weeks and still does therapy. I pray for her daily!!
Spring came and that lifted my spirits because I love flowers, outside, and sunshine. Adam had some more issues with alcohol and had to go to rehab once again, very disheartening. On May 7th I was blessed with a gorgeous grandson, Tucker Gene Cox. Now I not only have 6 beautiful granddaughters, but I am adding a grandson to the mix. God has sure blessed me. It was almost time for school to be out and I was so thrilled because I was tired and ready to enjoy my grandkids, yard, and nice weather. I need more income in the summer so I began to try and get hired with VipKid. At first I realized my internet was bad. That took 6 weeks to fix. Then my computer needed to be repaired. Josh and Jessica were married July 27th at her dad's church. It was a beautiful ceremony and they both seemed extremely happy, and of course, that makes me happy. Aaron and Tara and kids did not attend since they were not getting along, but Adam, Chanda, Abby, and Avery did come.
It was about time for school to start again and I was glad since I need the income. Once again I got to do ESS at NTES and STES plus homebound students. I was very busy with school and taking care of mama and daddy, but so thankful to have a job and to have my parents. I love fall and love football. I enjoyed watching UK so much. They did really well this year. The bank did sell Chanda and Adam's house, so they did move to Louisville. Chanda teaches there, so it is closer for her. I do hate that Abby and Avery will not be able to go to church since Chanda and Adam don't go.More sad news, Jessica and Josh had a miscarriage. I am praying that one day they will be able to become parents. I was so hoping I could see everyone on Thanksgiving; however, it did not happen. Chanda and Adam could not come and Josh and Jessica went on a delayed honeymoon to Costa Rica. I continued to pray that my family would get along and we could all be together. I was excited to begin decorating for Christmas. Jim always LOVED Christmas and decorating, so I guess I got that from him and I guess I want to continue because it helps me remember good times with him. I miss him so very much!! I was thrilled that almost all my family was here on Christmas Eve Eve, the day my kids all come. Tara, Aaron, kids, Josh, Jessica, Chanda, and kids came and actually got along. Adam did not come since he has had more issues with alcohol. I continue to pray for his sobriety. We celebrated Daddy's 90th birthday on Dec. 28th. My parents are both 90 and have been married 67 years. Another blessing!!

My year has definitely had downs, but it has had ups... I got a new grandson and new daughter-in-law. God has blessed me in so many ways and He always gives me strength to deal with all the downs.

FollowersAbout MeNanaspI am a very blessed and proud grandmother (Nana) of 6 gorgeous granddaughters and a beautiful grandson. They are all literally the light of my life. They give me so much joy there are not words to describe it. Each day I count the days (or sleeps, as the granddaughters say) until I get to see any one of them.
