We don t want to rush into a decision as guidelines are constantly changing.REFUNDS:If we are not able to run the program or you are not comfortable with your child participating, a full refund will be given. However, to remain on the dock wait list or use our fleet for free sailing you will need to retain your membership. If this applies to you, only the $350 instruction fee will be refunded.ADULT LESSONS:We remain hopeful to have our Saturday morning adult program. More information will be forthcoming as the guidelines change.PROGRAM DATES:As of right now we are looking at a six week program starting on Monday, July 6th.HEALTH/SAFETY/CLEANING PROCEDURES:Staff will be trained in all social distancing and hygiene protocols as required by the Department of Public Health. Staff and students alike will be asked to stay home if they are not feeling well. Masks will be required at all times if 6 feet of social distancing cannot be maintained. Hand sanitizer will be available in several locations on the CSC grounds. Students will not be in the building other than to use the restrooms, which will be sanitized several times throughout the day. Boats and equipment will be sanitized between lessons.FREE SAILING BICS/QUESTS:We hope to begin offering free sailing in a couple of weeks. State guidelines will be in effect only family members in a boat, masks, social distancing at the club and on the docks. BICS will be available during high tide as you must remain in the harbor.FRIEND GROUPINGS:Due to the complexity of scheduling and the safety of our students and instructors, if we are not able to run our typical program lessons will be individualized.WEATHER CANCELLATIONS:To allow for social distancing, if there is inclement weather and students are not able to get out on the water class will be canceled.Summer 2020 UpdateThe Cohasset Sailing Club Board of Trustees hopes this email finds you all well in these uncertain times. We are sure you have many questions regarding our summer sailing programs and access to the docks, as do we. We are awaiting more guidance from the Department of Public Health and Governor Baker and do not want to rush into any decisions. To date, it looks like we will not be able to hold our customary class schedule due to the need for continued social distancing. It is our hope to offer lessons for all students who have registered, and we are strategizing various schedules and contingency plans in order to accomplish this goal. Our priority is to be able to offer a fun, engaging season that allows students to get outside and learn on the water. Our new training fleet of ten RS Quests is being delivered this week. You can imagine how eager and hopeful we are to get them into the water and begin using them with our students and free sailors. The CSC is participating in a group discussion (South Shore YC Consortium) with other local sailing programs to share ideas.  We do know programs such as CSC, at this point, are not permitted to begin until after June 28.   Students will be required to bring masks or buffs (we encourage buffs as they are lighter and simultaneously provide greater sun protection). We hope to have our docks open for member use by early June. That being said, strict measures will be in place requiring social distancing and following boating regulations and guidelines provided by the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. As some of you may be waiting for more information before registering, late fees are being waived this season. We also would like to recognize the recent passing of Tim Salerno, long-time member of the Cohasset Sailing Club. Our thoughts are with Tim’s family at this difficult time. Please know we are doing everything possible to have a sailing season this summer, although it may not look like what we are all used to. We will update you again as we receive new information and guidance.Outer Cohasset Harbor Information MeetingTo join the call on March 31st at 7:30pm click here.As some of you know, the Friends of Bassing Beach have been given permission to conduct two aquafarm information CALLS for Cohasset Sailing Club members on Sunday, March 29th at 4:00 PM and Tuesday, March 31st at 7:30 PM.The Board of Trustees of the Cohasset Sailing Club strongly encourages CSC members to become more informed on the details of the Scituate proposal and the potential long-term impact it will have on the area. We believe the current proposal from Scituate is likely to affect some current Cohasset Sailing Club operations and our membership—if better informed—all can evaluate the pros cons of aquafarming as it is presently proposed in outer Cohasset waters. Each session should last between 1 and 1 ½ hours and will be led by Tim Davis, assisted by others on the Friends of Bassing Beach steering committee (see below).Aquafarming is a complex topic involving local, State and Federal agencies each with somewhat overlapping jurisdictions. We will be focusing on matters of direct importance to Cohasset Sailing Club members rather than going into detail on less germane issues. We are not anti-aquafarming per se, but we are convinced that the Scituate proposals and timetables inadequately address the preservation of the many environmental, recreational, and educational uses (e.g. sailing and racing instruction) that have taken place in these waters for generations. We believe that better information will energize our members to become activists to support collaborative, comprehensive, impact studies which are presently non-existent. Everyone can help: writing to Selectmen and state reps, signing petitions, and donating money to underwrite our research. We hope everyone can join the call tonight:Join Zoom Meetinghttps://zoom.us/j/709694714Meeting ID: 709 694 714Find your local number: https://zoom.us/u/abQICpAaYeFriends of Bassing Beach: www.friendsofbassingbeach.comTim DavisPeter MarathasBrian KimlaRalph DormitzerBill McGowanWoody ChittickCharlie HigginsonSteve BrownJacqui SandellSummer 2020 Registration UpdateWe were excited to see so many of you Saturday at registration. We did our very best to keep social distance and also continue with our long-standing tradition of CSC registration at the club. Due to the ever changing information we are receiving regarding COVID-19 and the mitigation process, we will not be holding another in-person registration. All signed registration forms, payments and physical/immunization forms should be mailed to PO Box 111, Cohasset, MA 02025. We have extended the late fee date to April 30th. After this date, please include an additional $50. This fee is used to subsidize our scholarship fund.We will do our very best to make equitable class assignments based on post-marked date. Please note that students will not be added to class lists unless the forms are complete with signed waiver, emergency contact and physical/immunizations included. The same process of mailing in your application holds true for dock space, kayak and paddle board spaces. Please include TWO checks. One made payable to CSC for registration fee and dock and/or kayak/paddleboard fee. Also include a check made payable to the Town of Cohasset for the harbor fee. The Cohasset Harbor Fee is $108.00 (if you have a mooring in Cohasset Harbor the Cohasset Harbor Fee is $75.00).Please note that after Saturday s registration, Sailor I is now closed. Also due to an overwhelming response at both the Skipper and Captain levels we have had to adjust the schedule as noted below:Skipper I Mon/Wed, 2:30-4:30 class is closedCaptain Tues/Thurs, 2:30-4:30 class is closedSkipper II and additional Captain students will meet Tues/Thurs, 4:30-6:30. If this time is more attractive to you and are registered in another class let us know and we can make adjustments. Thank you for your continued support of the Cohasset Sailing Club. We look forward to life getting back to normal and summer on the water.CSC_MembershipForm_2020As you start planning for your child(ren) s summer activities, please keep in mind that our class assignments are first come, first served. If you are unable to attend either of our registrations, please have a friend bring your registration paperwork, updated physical/immunization forms and payment. Please bring completed forms to expedite your time in line.  Thank you! First day learning to tie a bowline knotRace News!Despite beginning our season a week late, the Hingham Regatta went smoothly for the team. Our team was able to experience sailing in a large fleet and showed visible improvement from day 1 to day 2. Weather was great both days and provided conditions that allowed us to better optimize our racing skills.
