First Place:All the submissions to the junkbot competition were great, and we hope everyone had fun doing it! Our first place winner was Enigmatic Electronics with the Robot Grumpy Cat! We really loved this guy, and we re likely to use it as inspiration in some RobotGeek projects. Watch the video, they put a lot of effort into it! They even did an unboxing video of the super mysterious robotics grab bag. It paid off doing it for the meme, so keep up the good work guys!Runner-up:Now we know we said there would be one winner, but we were torn because all of the submissions were so great. We had to pick out a runner-up because we just loved watching solenoids pop ping pong balls in every direction! Joesinstructables made not one, but two projects that include full instruction! The Arduino Ping Pong Ball Cannon fires ping pong balls in all directions (and we want one for the office), and the Arduino Ping Pong Pinball machine looks like a lot of fun!Congrats, guys! Each of you will be receiving a $200.00 gift certificate to Trossen Robotics!Thank you to all the participants, we ll be doing more competitions soon! We ve been selling so many of the Super Mysterious Robotics Grab Bags! With so many people just getting involved in the contest, we want to give you all an extra month to make your robots! The new deadline for the Junkbot Competition is October 26! All of the entry rules still apply. Winner takes home a $200 Trossen Robotics Gift Card and all the glory of having made a cute/funny/cool robot using a randomized selection of parts!Junkbot Competition:We wanted to do something fun with this, so we re going to have a junkbot competition! The Super Mysterious Robotics Grab Bag is a way for us to clean house and say thank you to our customers. Sometimes we end up with a surplus of parts that we just don t know what to do with, so now we re giving it away on the cheap! The Super Mysterious Robotics Grab Bag always comes with a large workbench, duino mount, RobotGeek LED Driver, RobotGeek Rotation Knob, RobotGeek Pushbutton, RobotGeek Sensor Shield, and the hardware you ll need to mount it. What else is in the box? Everything from that point is a mystery. You ll get well over $150 (retail) worth of robot parts to kick your creative processes into high gear! Junkbot Competition:We wanted to do something fun with this, so we re going to have a junkbot competition! Winner takes a $200 Trossen Robotics Gift Card, and all the glory of having made a cute/funny/cool robot using a randomized selection of parts! How to enter:Purchase the Super Mysterious Robotics Grab Bag, and keep your order numberBuild a robot that makes use of the parts in the Grab BagPut a video, pictures, blog post, or any other media you can think of that displays the best qualities of your robot online and send us a link at [email protected] with the subject line Junkbot Competition A winner will be selected on September 26, so have your bot made and shared with us by then.Winner will receive notification of their win, a $200 Trossen Robotics Gift Card, and a blog post showing off their creation! The Turtle Mobile Platform is a low cost robotic chassis just waiting for you to add a microcontroller and sensors! If you re looking for a kit that will guide you through the first steps of physical computing, the DFRobot Beginner Arduino Kit has you covered! We now carry two new microcontrollers, the Romeo V2 and the Bluno! The Romeo V2 has sensor pin breakouts onboard allowing you to easily add DFRobot and RobotGeek Sensors, as well as a motor driver built in! The Bluno works as would be expected of a standard Arduino UNO, however, it packs built in Bluetooth! Jeff Owrey of IntraVisions programmed a Reactor Arm to paint a smiley! This is a fun little project that demonstrates just a fraction of what you can do with a robot arm! There are a few really awesome projects on IntraVisions.com that you should check out after the video, such as the DIY Weather Station, DIY Radiation Monitor, and a few Javascript games such as Conway s Game of Life! We had fun poking around these projects, and we can t wait to see what he comes up with next! We have 4 new RobotGeek I/O Boards, a new spin on an old knob, a bigger screen, and a cost effective kit for the classroom that you ve just got to see!Want to make your project kick into gear when life turns up the heat? The RobotGeek Temperature Sensor can feel its way through! With the 3-pin Sensor Cable standard, you can easily connect this to your project and start reading the temperature! Use it to activate your air conditioner, control the temperature in a cold frame, log the temperature of a greenhouse, or to monitor the temperature of a pie on the windowsill! The options are limitless and the temperature is accounted for.Wish you could display visual elements of your project on a standard television? Unleash your vision on the screen with the RobotGeek RCA Board! This board will allow you to hook your Arduino up to any screen with a standard RCA Jack! With another board, you can output video and sound. This is a slick way to show off sensor readings, and can even be used to make rudimentary game consoles!Want your next project to send a clear signal? The RobotGeek IR Transmitter can send data to various devices in your sights! Use it to control your TV, or send signals to another ~duino outfitted with a RobotGeek IR Receiver!Want a simple untethered control solution for your next project? The RobotGeek IR Receiver has you in its line of sight! This infrared receiver will pick up signal from any remote that sends an infrared signal, or can receive from another ~duino sending signals with the RobotGeek IR Transmitter!Want to make a dial that clearly displays the setting of a knob, like in fancy car stereos and sequencers? The RobotGeek Rotation Knob with Neopixel Ring Display is here for you! With a bright and clear 12 RGB LED NeoPixel ring nicely mounted with a RobotGeek Rotation Knob in the center, there are a ton of ways to enhance your next project! The mount is matched with the centimeter grid pattern, compatible with All RobotGeek Workbenches. The RobotGeek 4 Line LCD w/ Mount is a perfect screen for your next project! With twice the space of the original RobotGeek LCD, you can easily display scrolling lists, paragraphs of text, or even make a tile-based game! The display can be easily mounted to projects and Workbenches. The bottom has the standard RobotGeek 1cm X 1cm grid making all RobotGeek products compatible with each other. The RobotGeek Classroom Experimenter s Kit offers the widest range of arduino learning flexibility with the lowest barrier to entry to date! This kit is designed to move students entirely through the first 7 Chapters of RobotGeek 101, which covers the basics of building, wiring, and coding in an arduino environment! This is a fantastic way to get started, learning about things like Serial Communication, Digital I/O, Analog Input, PWM, and Servo Control. The Tangible Media Group at MIT Media Lab has come up with a novel and interesting interactive robotic interface called LineFORM. The project, consisting of a series of servos and some well considered firmware, was designed as an exploration of the utilization of a line as an interactive device. The line changes form to either act as an input device, to represent some form of data, or act as an intelligent appliance. This design is deceptively simple, allowing many complex interactions. Check out the video and think about what you could do with a series of Dynamixels! RoboCup 2016 is happening right now, and we ve sent Andrew to Leipzig Germany to be there! The international RoboCup community fosters the development of intelligent robots by defining and executing competitions that are used by scientists and students from all over the world to test and demonstrate their robots in attractive, realistic scenarios.RoboCup is a fantastic tournament where over 3,500 scientists and developers gather from all around the world to exhibit their latest leaps in robotics engineering! The contests are split into leagues, Soccer, Industrial, Rescue, and Junior, each with subcategories to help distinguish the class of robot being exhibited. We re excited to be in attendance with the HR-OS5 making an appearance, and we will be bringing you a recap of the events! The Team at Boston Dynamics has come out with a new robot in their line of quadrupeds named SpotMini!SpotMini is a new smaller version of the Spot robot, weighing 55 lbs dripping wet (65 lbs if you include its arm.) SpotMini is all-electric (no hydraulics) and runs for about 90 minutes on a charge, depending on what it is doing. SpotMini is one of the quietest robots we have ever built. It has a variety of sensors, including depth cameras, a solid state gyro (IMU) and proprioception sensors in the limbs. These sensors help with navigation and mobile manipulation. SpotMini performs some tasks autonomously, but often uses a human for high-level guidance. This little guy is adorable to watch, and truly a work of ingenuity. Some people find it creepy, but it certainly isn t as terrifying as Thomas the War Engine, so I think we re safe. Instructables user and student at Linkoping University, FredrikG3 has made an incredibly clever autonomous hexapod named Spider Pig! Using the Trossen Robotics AX Hexapod as a base, Fredrik has added an array of sensors, a raspberry pi, and well conceived code to allow the hexapod to navigate high and low terrain while making its way through a series of corridors! Check out the video and learn more on the spider pig instructables page!
