The library recently added four new mobile hotspots, increasing the total to eight available for checkout.The hotspots allow patrons to connect their tablet, phone, laptop and other Wi-Fi-enabled devices to the Internet.A hotspot may be checked out by any cardholder 18 years of age or older whose card is in good standing. All borrowers must show a current driver's license, state ID, passport or military photo ID at the time of checkout.Hotspots circulate for 7 days. Each hotspot circulates in a carrying case within a plastic case along with an AC adapter. The user is responsible for returning all of these items to the circulation desk in good condition.Hotspots may be renewed one time, provided there are no holds on the item. Only 1 hotspot may be borrowed on a patron's account at a time. The fine for an overdue hotspot is $1 per day until returned. After 3 days overdue, the hotspot will be deactivated and the patron is billed for the item. You may put a hold on a hotspot here.A hotspot can provide Internet access for up to 10 devices. By borrowing and initiating use of the library's mobile hotspot, the user agrees to abide by the library's Mobile Wireless Hotspot Policy. Patrons are allowed in the building with limitations as the library continues with Phase 2 of its re-opening plan.The library currently is open from noon to 6 p.m. weekdays, 1-4 Saturday. We also are offering curbside pickup during these hours. The library strives to continue to provide excellent customer service while also maintaining a safe environment for the staff, patrons and community because the novel coronavirus remains a serious concern.All staff members and all patrons over the age of 10 (who are able) are required to wear masks. Disposable masks are available near the front entrance, along with hand sanitizer.To help ensure that we can follow social distancing rules within the library, we are limiting the total number of patrons allowed in at any one time to 12. Visit times are limited to a maximum of 1 hour. We are missing everyone's smiling faces at storytime but now you can have storytime at your home!The library now offers Storytime-to-Go bundles that include 3 themed books, activity sheets, and a hands-on activity. Each week your registered child will receive a different theme, and we will prepare a new bundle for pickup each week– no need to call after you are registered, just pick up your new bundles.Please be sure to give us the following information in e-mail or over the phone: full name on the library card to be used, phone number, age of child (or reading level if it differs), and sex of the child.NOTE: The books will be checked out on the card provided and need to be returned in the bookdrops at your convenience. The activity sheets and hands-on activity are yours to keep! The Blanchester Public Library features several new conveniences for patrons!Patrons may now borrow up to 10 DVDs on their card.Loan periods have been lengthened for almost every type of item. Theloan period for mobile hotspots remains 1 week, but for DVDs, Blu-rayand new books it has doubled to 2 weeks, and is now 3 weeks for allother items in the library.The library is now fine free. This means we have eliminated all overdue fines for books, audiobooks, magazines, and DVDs. And all previous overdue fines on patrons' accounts have been eliminated. Fines continue to be $1 per day for mobile hotspots; and the library still charges fees for lost, non-returned, and damaged items. Check herefor more information.All items are automatically renewed for you on the due date. You no longer need to worry about contacting the library to renew your item. There are still the maximum number of renewals allowed for various items (3 for everything except for DVDs, Blu-ray, new books, and mobile hotspots which are 1), and items that have a hold on them can not be renewed. Upon renewal, a notice will be sent via e-mail detailing the new due dates and indicating any items that were unable to be renewed. Patrons with more than two overdue items will not be able to check out additional items. Parents are encouraged to enroll their children under the age of 5 in the program, which through a partnership with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, will provide all enrolled children in Clinton County a new book in the mail each month.You are able to enroll online here, or paper enrollment forms are available at the library. The program is free of charge for all families.
