Seorang Silvikulturis tidaklah menanam pohon hanya sekedar supaya pohon tumbuh kuat ditinjau dari fisiologisnya, tetapi dengan tujuan bermanfaat bagi manusia secara biologis maupun ekonomis. Kontrol silvikultur terhadap struktur dan tegakan menghendaki kaidah-kaidah yang memadukan pengetahuan biologi, pengelolaan dan ekonomis. Masyarakat secara keseluruhan telah memasuki zaman baru yang mempunyai pengertian umum terhadap konservasi sumber daya alam yang berarti Pemanfaatan sumber daya alam yang bijaksana .
