Welcome to the RH7 History GroupThe local history group for Lingfield and the surrounding areasThe Group, which was founded in 1999 by the late Peter Gray an eminent local historian and acknowledged expert in historic buildings, aims to encourage and assist in the study of local and family history. As our name suggests, we mainly focus on the RH7 postal district which covers the south-east Surrey communities ofLingfield,Blindley Heath,Crowhurst,Dormansland andNewchapel.We meet on the second Monday evening of every alternate month (January, March, May, July, September and November) at the Lingfield & Dormansland Community Centre and generally have a visiting speaker to talk on local or topical subjects. See our Events page for more details.Members are encouraged to undertake research of their area, house or any local history subject they choose (help is available when needed), and results may be published in the form of factsheets. Our research is also made available to a wider audience through local history exhibitions held in the Community Centre.We have close ties with the Hayward Memorial Local History Centre, Lingfield, a valuable local research resource housed in Lingfield Library.Membership fees are 10 single and 12 joint (two members at the same address) and fall due on 1st October each year. Non-members are very welcome to attend our meetings - there is a 2.50 charge for visitors.If you are not already a member of the Group but would like to join us, please email our Chairman.This website is intended to provide information about the activities of the Group and as a medium to publish the results of our research. It also provides a means for you to get answers to questions you may have about the history of the area - if you have any local or family history research queries relating to the RH7 area we would be happy to help or post an item on our Notice Board.
