About the Green River Doula Network

We are an association of independent birth doulas, postpartum doulas, and related care providers who work with families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We serve the Pioneer Valley (Hampshire, Franklin and Hampden counties) as well as eastern Berkshire County, southern Vermont, southern New Hampshire, and northern Connecticut.

GRDN is a registered nonprofit organization in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and a 501(c)(3) federal nonprofit. All donations to GRDN are tax-deductible, and because we are a purely volunteer-run group, 100% of your donations go toward our outreach programs!

Our Mission

The Green River Doula Networks mission is to facilitate access to doulas for families in the childbearing year. We are committed to providing doula support to all families, including those who may not be able to afford a doula. We believe that healthy parents raise healthy children and that parents are most effective when they receive the support they need. This belief underlies our unique approach to serving the entire family by focusing on the needs of the birth parent.

During pregnancy, doulas provide prenatal advice and support, including referrals to support services in the community and help with planning for birth.During labor and childbirth, doulas provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to the birth parent and partner.During the postpartum period, doulas ease the time of transition by helping with household tasks and connect the family with support resources of all kinds.

We are also committed to providing ongoing professional support for doulas and other birth professionals.

Program Areas

Access to Doulas

We offer a wide-ranging list of doulas and birth professionals here on our website. Through free public events, we educate families about childbirth options, and expand awareness of the benefits of doula support.

Doula Projects

We coordinate and seek funding for Community Doula Projects that provide low-income women in our communities with free, high-quality doula care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

Professional Support

We hold regular meetings designed to provide professional support and ongoing education. We also occasionally provide training scholarships for aspiring doulas.
