I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (The Mormons) and fasting is an integral part of our doctrine and teachings. We are taught to begin trying, with wisdom, to do a 24 hour spiritual fast from food and water once a month (we even call it Fast Sunday) from the time we are baptized (age 8) and then donate a generous "fast offering" of cash to support those in need in our congregations. I have fasted this way since I was 8. But recently I have learned a whole new side to fasting in my later 40's. I have learned, as you, how absolutely wonderful long-term fasting can be for health and curing diseases and overcoming addictions of all types. I stumbled across Alternate-day fasting in a diet book about 3 years ago, and did some research on the internet. I promptly began doing it for about 1 year. I have seen amazing results. Later on I discovered Dr. Fuhrman's book, "Fasting to Cure Disease. I now go through periods of alternate day fasting - mostly in the summer because it keeps me cool, and resting from fasting - mostly in the winter, because it keeps me warm. I really desire to try out a long term (20-30 day fast) but haven't had the opportunity just quite yet; next spring is the goal. This site has really helped me feel that it may not be necessary to actually go to a fasting a clinic for a long-term fast. That will save a heap of money! Thanks so much!!!! Mahalo!ps.
